Title: Mates gearbox?
Post by: devilscaff on 19 June 2013, 18:15
My friend has a F plate gti cabriolet and his gear box is shot. The question is will a 90 16v gearbox fit as a re-placement as I have a spare one. Thanks

Yes but the clutch friction plate will need to be changed.

Can you use the clutch and friction plate of the old one to put on the 16v one.

No because the input shaft is larger on the 16v box. The ratios may not be ideal either but if you change the friction plate it will work.

16v box is very revvy out on the motorways though. wont be so good on fuel either.
