Just buy those clips... that and bolts from exhaust mounts hold the shields on.

The heatshield is the flimsy tin like thing on the underside of the car, above the downpipe etc right? Definitely okay to rip all this off? Mine too has a bloody annoying rattle (well I think it is the heatshield).

Mine rattles at just under 6k rpm, perfect gear change reminder

Mine rattles between 2.5 and 3.5k rpm so is really really annoying!

Generally it's loose because the studs have rusted or it's pulled through the shield, surely?! I've been toying with the idea of removing mine but daren't.
To the guys that have; how many miles do you do a day? General work commute that is.

No it's the clips that have gone on mine, sheild and nuts are fine

Pulled my front one off before the downpipe last week re-fitted the rear one tho but the fixings aren't great  mine rattles like mad above 3500rpm now so guess i'll be pulling the shield off anytime soon

usually its the washers that rust and spikes break off... then it becomes loose.

push heatshield to body, push on new washer - use some pliers to push completely flush to heatshield... you won't have rattling anymore.

obviously won't work if heatshield is through but have not seen it come that bad, not even on my >> 200k miles 2 litre estate ;)

other thing that can rattle is heatshield under cat. use a large jubilee clip sort of thing or punched metal band...

I was just about to rip mine off when I refit the exhaust but I'll give the new clippy/nut things a go first then. Worth a shot, and the cat has got the dreaded rattle too, plus, what I think to be something in the bay, like the downpipe or something?

I removed the two front upper shields yrs ago turned out to be the one on the downpipe, sorted with a jubilee clip round the bottom,i wrapped the exhaust to be on the safe side,i now run a 3" downpipe into a 2.5 system so no downpipe heat shield to rattle  just exhaust wrapped
