Title: RDS 510 question - what will it do?
Post by: danjthomas on 18 June 2013, 23:21
Hi, Excuse my ignorance im new to GTI (bought a mk5 sunday) and am looking to fit a nice stereo with sat nav (full postcode entry), mp3, HDD and id like it to take my iphone.

I would also like to plug in and charge my phone and be able to scroll through music and select albums, songs, playlists onscreen.

IS the RNS/RDS 510 the one for me?

If you want the genuine OEM look and feel then the rns510 is the way to go. You'll need to add Bluetooth to the car as well unless it already has it and you'll need to be careful of the battery drain issue when retro fitting an RNS unit. what year is your car?

The RNS315 is also a good unit. It has Bluetooth built in an also has DAB. It doesn't have a hard drive tho', but I'm not sure how necessary that really is.

With all of the OEM units you will need to add the MDI in order to be able to plug in your ipod/phone or a USB device.
