Title: GTD -Sound Actuator
Post by: neilgcal on 15 June 2013, 11:37
Hey, not been on this forum for ages when I bought my MKVI Golf GTI.

Am thinking of ordering the MKVII GTD today. Does anyone know about this sound actuator thing mentioned during reviews. Is it an option or standard in the UK? There is no option for it when I spec a car online!!

Cheers
Neil

I think a few of us are wondering if its standard or not. In Germany, it comes as part of the sound and sight package, something we are not offered in the uk as things like Xenons are standard fitment anyway.

Guess well know when the cars actually start arriving ?

It is standard on the 170TDI Scirocco (is it on the MK6 GTD?), can't see any reason why we wouldn't have it on the GTD. Will know for sure in the next 2 or 3 weeks when my dad's GTD should turn up.

Hoping so. Bought my GTD today so face a long wait!!! The salesman reckons about 6 months but will be another couple of weeks till I get a build week.  :cry:

Test drove the GT 150 and it was very refined and quiet.

Hi Neil,

I strongly suspect the sound actuator won't be standard fitment. The reason - I've read no evidence anywhere in the last two months that it will be fitted to UK spec cars. One reviewer, can't remember which, said it was a bit naff. He said if you wanted your diesel to sound like a petrol, well go ahead and buy one.

Sounds a bit of a gimmick - however the Scirocco diesel boys say its quite good so what do I know :wink:

Yes it is fitted on my MK6 GTD.

Was it ever marked as standard on the MKVI GTD? I don't remember seeing it but if it has it, that bodes well for the mkVII!

Neil, as far as I'm aware, it was part of the standard mk6 GTD build - not a selectable option; mine certainly has it and I didn't spec it as an option. There wasn't any reference to it in the mk6 GTD model brochure that I can see, although it's not really overflowing with spec-related information!

I think it will be standard, I doubt it would be a popular option to purchase. If it's not on the UK options list, either on its own or as part of a pack then you can't buy it here in the UK.

Hi all,

The 'sound actuator' was standard in the mk6 and from my experience it just made a faint 'grunty' noise in the cabin, not outside. was quite pleasant really.
New for the mk7 in certain markets, is the 'sport and sound package' (as its called in Ireland).

The product description is woeful; ECO function, Outside sound, Front shock absorbtion, Rear stabilizer, rear sports shock absorbtion

Further enquiries provided this;

·         The Sport & Sound package adds 16” front and rear disc brakes in Tornado Red.

·         The shock absorption and stabilizers are one step more sporty than the standard GTD (the reservoir tube specification is related to this) Reservoir tube 55mm, Rear stabilizer 21.7 x 3.0

·         One selection of the driving profile is the ECO-mode, to save energy/ fuel (advice and settings such as less acceleration, climatisation and others)

It also includes 18" Nogaro's (as not standard in Ireland :angry:) AND 'outside sound' as this link post by mjh_056 perfectly demonstrates!

and this link shows what they look like;

This is the colour combo ive been considering, just a bit unsure about the exhaust sound!! Bit tacky?

Forgot to mention the standard rear calipers are 15" :wink:
