Title: Tips for removing exhaust?
Post by: Callum_K on 14 June 2013, 10:50
Hi all,

Need to replace the 2 rusty central silencers on my Mk3, have a nice shiny stainless steel section to go in. Any tips for seperating the pieces? Took off the clamp holding my backbox on, tried giving it a good pull and bash witha mallet but it won't budge, seems a very tight fit and probably rusted on! Didn't even get a chance to try the pipe connected to the cat.

Penetrating fluid overnight, heat, hammer and chisel

Ended up using a dremel to cut some slots in the backbox and peeling it loose. Got to attack where it joins the cat today, hopefully won't give me too much grief!

Blow torch to get heat into outer pipe then some good whacks in the right place with a hammer is the way ive always had to do it without mullering it all
