How do i take off my side repeaters is it just a case of pulling them off or is there a special way to do it?
Cheers guys Dan
-
Theres a little clip on one side that needs to be pushed in as you pull.
-
Can't remember which way, but basically you push the repeater to the front or rear of the car and it will just pop off in your hands. No tools necessary, put the screwdrivers away!!!
-
I just tried mine. Wont budge. Nearly sweating too was pushing that hard!
-
Just done them and was easy peasy. Get a flathead screwdriver. A nice cloth to protect the car. Now from the side nearest the engine. Put the flat head in that way and gently push. It will pop out!

Anyone know the cut off year for cars that are allowed to have the side repeators removed?
I thought it was around 84 but just wanted to check.
-
i wondered that, i've seen mk3's in mags with badges instead and wondered what the legalities of it was................?
-
who cares when they look soo good Joe
-
Done! just need sum chrome bulbs thingys now!
-
LEgal law states that side indicators are not nessersary (sp?) as long as there are no holes for indicators to fit into, hence rallyes get away with it as there is a G60 badge in place, and many others just fill the hole and paint over it.
-
Yeah I'm thinking of removing my side-repeaters and so I've asked around a few mechanics and the answer I keep getting is that as long as you have no holes you don't need 'em, and it is only a MOT requirement if they are on the car at the time
Now all I need is the time and money to get it done.....
-
But then my friend was stopped by the police in his '90 golf and the guy said he could charge him 30 quid for each missing side repeater, but as he was a bit of a golf enthusiast himself he let him off with a warning!!
-
i picked up a couple of small square gti badges which push fit into the repeater recess. i got them off a b-reg golf from my local scrappy.
-
I work at a MOT station and we golf with side reapters removed and the tester said as long as there not
there before the test it doesnt matter.
So remove them if you want, its legal.
-
Brilliant, cheers for clearing that up mate, I'm of to buy me some wolfsburg badges
-
Some MOT centres seem to have their own rules though and will fail you for no side repeaters. When i had my white golf it had no side repeaters just wolfsburg badges where they would normaly be and i had to go and buy some stick on caravan repeaters for the MOT.
