Title: Any doctors on here?
Post by: SI74 on 12 June 2013, 20:34
So I had a knee opp last Thur and its still bleeding. I got plasters home with me so I can change them but having to do this 2 times a day. I know the cuts are still open as the strips they put on are not really doing a thing and wont keep the cut closed.  Should I be thinking about going to the hospital to get a stitch or glue put in it??

I'd suggest you get in touch with the ward where you were discharged from. If they've cocked it up, they should put it right. But knowing how hospitals dump work on GPs, they'll probably get you to see your GP who may or may not need to speak to the on-call orthopaedic team to get you seen. Alternatively, if they're into minor surgery, they may put in a stitch or two to hold things.

What kind of knee op did you have?

Cheers pal, Going to call into A&E tomorrow. Never been like this before.

Years of MX has left me with really bad knees,  Had a few opps on them this time it was 25% of the cartilage removed and a clean up.

Its nit closing because your bending it to much. I should rest with leg straight for atleast 4 days.

But if they've told you to move it im surprised your not stitched.

I had metal staples on my leg

 I had keyhole on my knee and the strapping was wound all around my leg so I couldn't bend it...hospital said no bending for 4-5 days then only small movements

That said if your worried get it checked just for peace of mind?

I'm trying my best to keep it straight but its doing my head in lol.  Was told to walk normal on it as soon as I could to get the movement back. Had the strapping on but pulled it off on Mon cuz it was covered in blood. I guess I don't want to wasting a doctors time more than anything.

having had three knee ops myself... two arthroscopies and one full open... I think you should visit your doctor or A&E as soon as you can. last thing you want is an infection.

I think when I had the two arthroscopies they put a single stitch in each of the three entry points.
