can anyone help me out with what channels i should be logging (AGU M3.8.3) to get an idea of how my car is running?
i did a quick log today, i couldnt do much due to traffic/driving conditions. dont think i logged the correct channels, although i did a maf log and a timing/knock log, it appears i am running too much timing and also down on maf readings from calculated bhp vs previous bhp..
timing retard seems to be very bad at some points too
i`ll post up the log in a moment, unless anyone would prefere it e-mailed is excell format?
i`m a little worried
-
so, here is the very short log i did, dont think i am logging the correct channels..
also, i have the standard cat fitted, still haven`t swapped back since mot

-
Put that data into a graph. Will be much easier to comprehend.
-
That's a lot of retard, you using happy shopper fuel?
Intake temps look good, air in looks ok too, what sort of power should it be?

it should be texaco super, but i hardly use texaco so probably put in happy shopper without realising.
i usually use tesco momentum, (whenever they got stock  ) which the car was originally mapped with.
last RR was 223bhp-244lb/ft so looks down by 20bhp to me?? :undecided:
i`ll do another log later and see if i can get better results..
-
2nd short log... timing still bad.. maf still reading low "er"
i dont think the standard cat is helping nor the bigger turbo
another thing ive noticed is it cuts back higher up in there rpm range :undecided:

Are you using VCDS lite?
I use 2 3 4 and that's just basic revs, maf, water and inlet temps.
Can you try rev it out to 7k in 3rd and 4th? That should see the maximum maf figures. Should also show max inlet temps.
-
no mate, an old skool version mate...
-
I use VCDS lite downloaded free from the Ross tech website. And a £7 ebay blue cable.
Seems to do everything I need but n75 duty.
I need to read up on the knocking and retarding logs. I don't quite understand it....
-
have a little read here, the measuring block channels will be different depending on what engine/ecu you have though.

for some reason its cutting back the power at above 4.5k, not sure why this is.
-
Thanks for that. At maximum maf reading your cyl3 is seriously retarding. It doesn't seen temp based
-
cyl 3 is normally most restricted to exhaust manifold flow i think :undecided:
also i have the standard cat still currently fitted.. perhaps contributing factors? i don`t know
-
One last question. What's the difference between knock and retard? :lipsrsealed:
-
knock happens when the ignition is too advanced (sparking too early in the stroke) or fuel too lean for running conditions, also known as detonation or is det a worse form?..lol
retarding the timeing brings the spark closer to TDC (sparks later in the stroke).
-
Is that WOT from 2640rpm?
Here's a look at mine to see how they compare (air mass readings look low due to VR6 MAF)
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0803/WesRS/neweculognometh_zpse208eb3b.jpg) (http://smg.photobucket.com/user/WesRS/media/neweculognometh_zpse208eb3b.jpg.html)
-
foot was planted till end of log mate.
also the inlet temps look ok in the first log but they did rise a bit later on, the toyosports fmic kit is suffering a bit of heat soak i think although this doesnt seem to be the cause of knock or cutting back :undecided:
i`m under the impression it may be the turbo and actuator not agreeing with the old map?
-
log the same as mine and see what happens
also have a look at your throttle angle and see what it's reading (without the engine running though lol)
-
i did have a look at that before mate, wot was about 83 or 89* cant remember exactly. i know yours was jamming early wasnt it?
-
yeah, had to file away the stop to get it to 89
-
i might stick the calibra injectors and vr6 maf in tomorrow and see how it runs, also fit the decat as looking at the symptoms, being cyl3 knocking first, it sounds exhaust gas temperature related.. :undecided:
-
You are logging too many channels, you only have a very limited bandwidth and are getting a really poor sample rate as a result. Gotta pick your channels.
-
can you give an example of which ones i want to log?.
-
did a quick log today. the only knock i got was 0.7 once on cylinder 3. who was it who mapped the car? is it a fresh tank of petrol?
-
can you give an example of which ones i want to log?.
Can't help you there i'm afraid, it's just you are taking a log of load then a log of the knock approx 0.4 seconds later, which is a lot of rpm on a WOT run. Also it's about a second between MAF readings, so you can easily miss a peak or a dip in value.
You can still conclude that you've got a knock problem from the data you have captured.
-
i get you mate,

Sorry to hi-jack.
I have the exact same set up and I can not connect to the engine part. I know the cable works because I connected to the radio and a couple of other things, but not the engine.
Any ideas as to why ?

it was mapped correctly  mods have changed alot since.
-
i think i may have found the cause of knock.. i just went and swapped my cat over for the decat and when i unplugged the lambda sensor, the plug was full of water  it looks like the seal has gone
im not sure if this would be the cause.. but its one of my guesses.. the fact the old cat was fitted might have been a cause :undecided:
-
looks like its fixed, swapped the restrictive cat for the decat and it looks like a gain of 11bhp since last RR (i had to stop due to fuel starvation in this logging session) so when theres plenty of fuel in the tank i`ll do another.
knock looks like its gone too
(http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f82/citroenaxgtr/maflog1.png) (http://s45.photobucket.com/user/citroenaxgtr/media/maflog1.png.html)
i will do another knock log because i think the last one i did, i think i missed the point where i was actually accelerating judging by the time stamp  . not sure though

there seems to be alot of issues with the cheap vag com leads not connecting to ECU`s. mine is a cheapo but its an old cheapo.
try going into the options screen of vag com, set the baud setting to 9600 then click apply, see if that works
-
Splendid mate. What sort of boost are you running? Very rough guess of 234bhp :afro:
-
i think i`m peaking at about 22psi and tailing off to err.. i dunno .. or at least i was before i fitted the cat, i don`t really spend much time looking at the boost guage to be honest..lol
-
(http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f82/citroenaxgtr/maflog1.png) (http://s45.photobucket.com/user/citroenaxgtr/media/maflog1.png.html)
isn't 188g/s the limit of the maf?.. and in that case, isn't that what is not bottle necking my power
-
188g/s is roughly 235bhp so I'd guess you'd be getting close. You running a ko3s?
-
no mate, k04 in a k03 shell
-
Time for a VR6 MAF and Calibra yellows then

they are sitting in a pretty little box in the back of the car, need to sell my arse first though so I can afford the custom mapping.

Should hit good power with MAF and injectors mapped in then :afro:

would you get that much for your arse
-
course I would, you ain`t seen my arse! :smug:

thank f**k ave not mate
-
don`t knock it `til you've tried it, 5 sessions and I would have enough for the custom map!
-
Did your cat swap solve your 'cutting back' issue?
I had that on the mk4, seemed like MAF had hit limit and was sort of going into limp mode?
Release foot, wait a second, then you could plant it and be back at full boost again?
Mine was peaking at 22psi, but I was only running ko3s, on a ko3 map though.
Standard injectors and MAF though so I couldn't have been anywhere near 235hp/188 g/s?!

hopefully yes, I remember nick saying something about pulling the timing a back at about 6krpm due to the lack of fuel, which was down to an old filter and pump. they are now upgraded too.

the cat swap improved it vastly I should say, I can still feel bit of a soft limit around 5.5-6k.
I am running standard maf and injectors on a k03s custom map.
it is peaking around 22-25psi but the N75 is doing its job and clipping it.
-
Buggar, mine was running on one of those 3" systems with no cat, so that ain't going to be my issue then
Mine used to cut back to about 4psi, in 3rd / 4th when about 5500rpm.
-
I thought your cam belt was a tooth out?
-
It was, think that may have caused it?
-

  bet your not kidding either
-
what?... £50 per penetration session.
50 x 5 = 250
£250 custom mapping for returning customer`s at r-tech, that`ll cover it I think.
oh, I forgot, minus the cost of a big tub of Vaseline, so an extra session will be needed to cover it.

when is your car going to visit r-tech anyway
-
lol, when I have raised the funds!. I`m really skint at the moment. I might upgrade a few parts first though, the intercooler pipework needs doing for a start, its shoddy as hell.

Wazzer - that the old ECU of mine??
Id be hesistant to put maf and injectors in without mapping in.

it`s nothing special tbh mate, only hacked apart to reduce the weight, a couple of ebay parts and some r-tech magic.
mostly done on a tight budget and build by myself mate, which is where I suppose it stands me proud that daddy didn't have an input nor were many of my mods just bolt and go.
-
well if you ever need a 2nd pair of hands I don't mind the short journey to get my hands dirty
-
thanks for the offer mate
-
im doing mine on a budget too so I know the help sometimes can come in handy
