Title: Alloy Foot Rest ?
Post by: Sootchucker on 12 June 2013, 13:22
As you know our GTI / GTD's will all come with Alloy pedals (be they manual or DSG versions), and we also know that for Left hand drive models, it also includes an alloy foot rest on the left. However for us Brits / Irish that drive right hand drive cars, VW have never catered for this market when it comes to alloy foot rests.

Therefore the question is, if anyone finds a source of good looking alloy footrests for the MK7 platform, could that post it here so that we can perhaps organise a group buy ?

I purchased one for my Rocco and really think it finishes the interior off

Would be good but I don't think it is available from VW.  3rd party?

Yes Bill, I'm pretty sure it will be 3rd party, as they were not even available for the MK5 / 6 directly from VW.

Mine was made by a chap called "Gulfstream11", I'll see if I can track down an email for him and see if he's interested in doing some for the MK7 ?

Well that was quick. Found out that Gulfstream's company is called Creations Motor Sport. I just emailed them about the possibility of getting an alloy foot rest for the MK7, and within minutes got this reply :

"Hi there xxxxxx,
Thanks for your enquiry.
We are working on a design and are looking to have them on sale in 4-6 weeks time.
Thanks
Bill

I can vouch for them being top quality too (from Gulfstream)

I've got the seat inserts from gulfstream. I've had the same pair in my mk5, mk6 no1 and mk6 no2.
So I too can vouch for quality.

I've had three lots of seat inserts and two footrests from Gulf and they've all been spot on. My Ed35 footrest was his prototype and it was spot on first time!

Dependent upon price I would be interested as well. Are they easy to fit?

I'd be interested if the price is right

And me. It seems daft that VW don't fit something that looks so good to RHD cars.

Are you sure thats Gulfs company? Isn't he from up north? Creation are in Brum, bought some german plate carriers from them but took them back as it was gonna be a ball ache to fit the front one.

To be honest, no, not 100% Jimble, but was lead to believe it was by a pal over on another forum that's purchased from them and lead me to that website ?

If not, do you have any contact details for Gulf ?

At first I stuck mine on with 3m tape, which was no good cos after a while it came unstuck and fell off while driving along. I then got four torque screws and drilled tiny pilot holes and screw it it - job done. Wen the cargoes I'll leave it in so there isn't four holes for the new owner.

I don't think he has a company, I think he does them as a side line to his main job, could be wrong?

I keep looking at the YouTube videos and seeing the alloy foot rest on the left hand drive models. I will definitely have to get one ordered..

only other site i can find with them is this:

http://www.superskoda.com/Volkswagen/Golf-VII/VW-Golf-VII-MK7-GTi-designed-footrest-for-RHD-cars-MANUAL-TRANSMISSION

although the CAD design previews don't at all look like the LHD versions

They won't look the same though because the footrest is a different shape for a RHD car.

I can almost definitely confirm there will be no Alloy Foot Rest standard in the RHD GTI if the video is anything to go by.  The video link below at 0.31 shows only the blurry highlight of the pedals through the steering wheel, not the foot rest.

There is definitely no standard RHD alloy footrest in the GTI or GTD, anyone who already has one or has seen a demo can tell you that. VW have a long history of only providing for one in LHD and RHDers rely on custom jobs if they fit one. This thread is all about looking for an alternative.

Audi are the same from memory I wonder why they don't produce the parts?

Yeah - how easy are these to fit would be my first question...

With Gulftreams rests, you can opt whether to have them come with pre-drilled holes for screwing in (with nice capped screws), or without holes for glueing on.

I've tried both and the screws work best.  The glue I tried tended to not stick very well onto the plastic trim behind.

Here's some pics of the older ones from Gulfstream, inc. seat inserts :

You can see the third one has no holes (i.e for glueing)

the guys over here developing a proper MK7 dead pedal arrangement that will look as good as the factory LHD version that we don't get. Looks really good if it all pans out. €50 for one, or maybe a group buy for €45.00 ?

As long as it doesn’t say GTI on it (unless they also does one that says GTD) then that could be good.

I think the foot rest from the superskoda site, won't have any writing on it as it's supposed to look factory fit, and the LHD footrests don't come with any lettering.

I for one will be looking into getting one of these when they are available.
