Title: Help please
Post by: Tasher on 12 June 2013, 11:45
Okay so my fuel gauge doesn't work :(
I have heard that its a common fault that the ribbons go.

Is this right?
I just need to change the clocks then don't I?

Thanks in advance

Which car? Mk3's are notorious for the fuel sender in the tank failing...

oh sorry its a MK2

My first thought was the fuel sender but then someone suggested otherwise.

If I took the clocks out could I easily tell if the ribbon has broke?

Short the sender wire to earth (ignition on.......of course) in the boot, the gauge should go full scale. If it don't it's the wiring or gauge. If it does it's the sender.
