Evo says the GTI gets VVT.

For some reason I thought this was only on Audi variants of the EA888. Is Evo right?

I'd take this blokes word for it:

So this is new to the mk7 right? As in its completely new not a rehash.
Sorry for being thick (again).
EDIT: forgot to say thanks! That's a good vid find there.

Based on all I've read, yes, the GTI is getting this tech and yes, it's the first time the GTI will have had it.

Isn't this more significant of a deal than is really being publicised? Its probably responsible for the large efficiency gains, and if the article posted in the fuel thread is to be trusted (I think it is) then having the cam timing able to advance in response to the fuel mix means the GTI should be able to properly take advantage of high octane fuels so that it burns lower volumes. I wonder how much extra mileage this gives, enough to offset the higher pump price? If only there was a definitive test! Variation in driving conditions would make it hard to verify. I am now highly encouraged to try only Tesco 99 in my tank, which I probably would not have done without the VVT.
Any thoughts?

Yes, the GTI is (again) getting the Audi engine and the VVT is what's responsible for the big torque increase and emissions gains.
Ok that's probably what the guys says in the youtube link but I can't view it right now!!!

He mentions efficiency in conjunction with cam timing and height. But he does it in that German manner where it seems very imprecise.
