Title: Balls. Puncture.
Post by: VWNOS on 10 June 2013, 21:15
Picked up a flat metal object in my rear tyre on Sat - can't be repaired so I need a new tyre.

My GTi is 12 months old and has Conti Sport Contact 2's as standard, so I'd like to get the same tyre. Blackcircles are advertising the same tyre for £133 or a 'Audi fitment' version for £126. Is there any difference?

The Sport Contact 2 don't seem to be made anymore (out of stock everywhere it seems) so if I can't get one, can you guys recommend a Conti that looks similar? My missus has Sport Contact 5 on her new A3 but the rim protection is different.

Meanwhile I'm buzzing around with a space saver fitted. Oh the shame.....!

Cheers, Noel

The Conti Sport Contact 2 had been superseded by the Sport Contact 3, so maybe that would be your best bet.  Unless you change both rears and go for something else.

I've just had to have new front tyre and alloy on mine - damn those potholes

Stayed with same as already fitted - Conti Sport Contact 5P (225/35/R19). They are 19's though and £160 each or £190 fitted.   Pretty impressed with these tyres, excellent braking, good grip and responsive.  Had them on through winter and they were absolutely fine.

I think Conti 2's aren't too bad but Conti 3s are a nightmare because the rim protector is a lot more pronounced on retail tyres than the OEM ones.
I got a puncture in one of mine back along and luckily had a spare OEM Conti 3 which matched the other 4 but the replacement 'spare' I picked up has a much more pronounced rim protector and thus is annoying me as it will look slightly different.

If you're going to get a replacement check the actual part number matches on the sidewall and not just the rest of the generic tyre spec.

There are always part worn Conti 2s on ebay, just pick one that doesn't have sidewall damage or puncture repairs.
Or replace both tyres on the same axle and keep the good Conti 2 as a spare.

Thanks fellas. I managed to source a Conti 2 via blackcircles, so it's being fitted Friday.
