Title: Fuel grade
Post by: Torch on 10 June 2013, 21:09
A question to ponder!

I have always put 99 octane grade fuel in my Mk V GTI as I heard years ago that this fuel type was not only a higher grade but less prone to contamination.

Have you guys thought what you intend to put in your GTI?

I've went out my way in my current car to only use vpower. I'll be using the same in the new car

Anyone know of a comparison between the major premium brands.  Tesco 99 seems pretty good value.

I read a good article about a comparison between the 'premium' fuels. Tescos came out top. I will try and find it for you. They ran the same car on each one for x weeks, noted economy and dyno'd them.

That was way back in 2006, and there are quite a few conflicting views in the discussion that follows the article.

Ah, but are these conflicting views supportable ones.  In other words do they stand up to the same standard of scientific test as the article, or are they more anecdotal?

With bill on this one Alan. I'm always going to give more weight to the well explained article than the fella that dyno'd his cosworth worth once.

I'm in the business and I assure you petrol has changed very little since it became unleaded. A few additives here and there but the chemistry is identical.
