Hi guys
Just want to start and say sorry for all the threads latly lol
Ive had a full day out in the golf today an noticed a few little problems
Main one being the temp gauge ligjt for the engine - keeps flashing red but the actuall gauge says not up to tenp yet but ove noticed i can go for good motoway run 30-40 mins no light then once i stop at services for example then start it up again it starts flashing?? Any body know why and how to resolve it?
Also the accelarator pedel is really stiff have to really put alot of pressurre on it
And ive noticed that when using the car theres a strange petrol/fuel smell from engine and when blowers are on its quite strong lol
Thats alll i understand its 20 years plus old but just wondered if anyone can help me resolve these issues
Cheers guys!!

Well flashing temp light is actually for coolant. Check you coolant levels, if its fine then it's the sender.
-
Ah cheers for that coolent level is fine, were would i get a sender from?

Sender or sensor? Haha sorry guys

Same thing for sender/sensor. With your throttle you could try having a look on top of the throttle body to see how tight the cable is set and maybe lube it up to make it twist a little easier. I have been thinking about fuel but it could be a few things. What's your mpg like? Mine used to smell of fuel because it was running really which when I got it. Plus a new blue coolant temp sender (different to the level sender) increased my mpg dramatically and stopped the smell. Food for thought

Cheers fkr that dude and on the little mpg thing it was 10mpg lol dont knkw if this is accurate though? So ... just to sum up
If i buy that sensor that should sort the light?
As for peddle where you can pull from top of engine its not stiff so presume its somthing from there to the pedel??
A d do you think its just running rich? How would i sort this
Thanks for the patience never brought a car this old before not veey good with mechanics do bodywork for a living the too dont mix haha

Thereis a really good tuning guide on the forum under maintenance. That will show you how to set the fuel mix off the airbox. Definitely invest in a blue temp sender though. The mfa mpg reading isn't completely accurate but mine is close, 10mpg is awful. If your coolant levels are ok it's not an issue just annoying but a new sender should sort you out. Genuine parts are better but more expensive, get a genuine blue temp sender though. It is what the ecu uses to advance the ignition and for fuel.

Oh cheers :) do you knkw where i could get the two genuine sensors from?? (Link would be great)
And ill have a look on the matinece section! Do you know what the threds called? Will this sort the smell out once set up?
Cheers

Get the sensors from vw for genuine parts
Here is a link to the tuning guide

I'm not sure what is causing the smell but it helped for me

To be honest it seems like it could do with a set up as not much power bit lumpy not very good at idle bit high so im gonna give it a go
Is this guide ok for 16v?
And i can get the parts from vw main dealer still?
-
Priced up a blue sendor for £28? Genuine is this a fair price??
Does anyone know where to find it to replace??
Cheers

I should have checked to see if it was 8v or 16v first

Does that mean the guides no good? :(
