Title: First showing of mine after detailing DA Polish
Post by: megastream on 09 June 2013, 07:55
Had some pretty bad paint swirls caused by the dealers terrible washing techniques

2 days spent prep'ing with wash, towel dry, de-tar, clay bar, re-wash, towel dry, DA Polish, wash, towel dry, HD Wax

Odd thing to say, but it actually hurts your eyes to look at the car it's such an intense red

Cheers for the comments.

I got the a DAS-6 Pro polisher as a kit with pads and polish from the link below. I practised on a couple of other cars before plucking the courage to let loose on my car, but it really is easy to use.

http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/polishing-machines/das-6-pro-dual-action-polisher/das-6-pro-sonus-and-menzerna-kit/prod_677.html (http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/polishing-machines/das-6-pro-dual-action-polisher/das-6-pro-sonus-and-menzerna-kit/prod_677.html)

Start with a fine compound and work up grades if further correction is needed. The difference between done and not done panels  was amazing, the red really does jump out really bright now. The car was clean before but it's a whole new level of clean now.

I practised on our 3 year old black Mazda 5, again the swirls and scratches on that came out to leave a flawless finish.

Highly recommend getting a DA to anyone, the guys at Cleanyourcar are also really helpful as I had not got a clue what kit was best for me.

you should have videoed it, I wouldnt mind watching the step from a newbie.....its ok watching on YouTube, they make it look really easy....

I think im gonna have to bite the bullet and buy one....Like you said though, there is so much choice out there. Not sure which to buy for Carbon Steal Grey.

Ps, do you buff bumpers, or just metal work?

I did all the paintwork with it, even used a light pad with fine polish on the gloss black bit between front and rear doors - that was really badly swirled - now perfect black gloss

I used the polish supplied with the kit to do the black on my wheels but did this by hand, managed to get virtually all the swirls out for deep gloss shine.

Have a look around this forum for tips and info on products and techniques.

Word of warning - I'm becoming slightly addicted to car cleanliness now  :undecided:

Using a DA is dead easy mate! If i could only give one word of warning it would be DON'T LIFT THE MACHINE OFF THE BODY UNTIL IT'S STOPPED!!!! It makes a huge mess!!

And yes you can polish the bumpers but you'll need spot pads. 8)

nice work mate. I wish my paint work on the front bumper looked as healthy as yours :( mine is stone chip city. guess that's my punishment for driving with my foot to the floor.

I have a Kestrel DAS-6 as well, they're a great polisher and for a very good price. think I paid £60 for mine last year.

I have seen awesome results using 3M Perfect-it III Ultrafina Polish and Auto Finesse Spirit Wax on red cars in the past. maybe worth looking in to.

Is the Kestrel the same polisher just under a different name...looks the same.

Really need to get one soon....just £160 is a bit much now - Want remap and rear LEDs this month

How much product are you using? This usually only happens if you have wet the pad too much, or have too much polish.

Generally 5 pea sized blobs per section after the pad is primed so not much, i've only taken it off before stopping once but it meant i had to go over most of car with IPA wipe before i could carry on! Not great. :D
