Bill for me when I was looking at new cars the choices were Audi A3/S3, GTI or BMW 3 series. I just don't like cars such as the Focus, VXR, and Renault which are far too boy racer in their looks - maybe because I'm in my mid 30's but they don't appeal to me.

Probably Audi A5 for me, possibly go down to the top A1/S1. Something that isn't going to plummet in value would be something to consider.

I'd probably go for an Audi S3 or wait for the R.

Any A3 would have to be 3 door, I can't believe how adding 2 doors can turn that car from a conservatively styled car with a sporty silhouette to an old mans estate car, somehow Audi managed it.

Only other car look at is an A3 S Line Quattro or preferably still an S3 - Cars in this range are the size of car simply like best and 100% would not go smaller or larger which limits the choice - Hate the interiors of Ford and Vauxhall with the latter that had for a year unfortunately once! having the interior feel of a Amstrad Power Tower with a sport button (that really did make no difference) not looking out of place on a toy from a pound shop! - Others mentioned too are meh! and yes some there might be deemed to be more 'fun' at a critical level or are a 0. second quicker but I look at overall package and how I drive in day to day and the interior comfort and quality too as it does very much add to overall feeling.
Obviously Mercedes and BMW do make quality cars but I have seen and been out in both and work with many who own and they simply leave me personally cold on thought of ever owning.
I was Audi all the way in fact but always loved the GTI and hence stepped over but if no GTI/GTD it would have to be an Audi A3/S3

M-lite... No brainer for me. Other than that I would be hard pushed to choose another "Hot" hatch as they are far too "lairy" for my liking. Maybe 10 years ago I would have jumped at the chance to own a Megane Cup or VXR, but my tastes have changed & I prefer the discrete look these days....
The only car I was seriously considering was a Skoda 'Yeti'... No seriously.. I had it down as an option when I started to look for a Golf replacement.

Ah, I should have added the A3 as an option. Somehow it escaped my mind at the time but seems like its the popular choice! I'm surprised the ST is so unpopular, just goes to show that while Ford, VW and others are 'competing' in theory, those who buy these hot hatches are really looking for different things!

Bit daft not to have any Audi options on there!
I was tossing up between another TT, A5 or GTi for this order so it would be one of the Audis.

If it had been a few years back and the older st I would have said that as an option but I dont like the looks of the new one at all.
The Alfa giulietta cloverleaf would be my second choice behind the S3

The old 5 pot Focus ST was a "Blast" when first launched....especially with the Superchips Bluefin re-map. Great value as well, as the ST1 was only around £18K at the time.
How they've managed to 'cock' up the styling with the new one I do not know. The biggest selling point of the old ST was its charismatic 2.5litre 5 cylinder engine! Unfortunately they've reverted back to a 4 cylinder Eco-boost in the new one which isn't nearly half as exciting.

Another one to throw into the mix is the new Merc A class. Doesn't get a great write up but in that south sea blue colour it looks bloody good!

That's what I was going to go for before the GTI tempted me! A Class looks a bit different than anything else on the road, and that colour is awesome! Probably drives like a pig though!
