Title: Drivers door lock rod - sticking
Post by: Deefadog on 09 August 2005, 13:46
Any one ever had this?

I must have bent it in some way when i was fitting the new handles! it sticks sometimes and will not lock/unlock via the alarm, when i try the key i can feel resistance and then it works! it's definately the rod i think, because before i get out of the car i can just pull the pin lock toards me and it locks, everytime, but then it will not unlock unless i use the key?

So any ideas on how to fix this? i can't really see the workings inside?

I think your just gonna have to take y door card off and have a look mate. See if you can figure out whats obstructing it.

Cheers, just take general pics towards the locks and the rod  that goes vertical!

I can compare then, maybe there is a clip holder or something that has fallen off :)

If it's bent dude you'll spend for ever trying to straighten it out get to the stealership and buy a new bit mine was an earth shattering 97p and 20p for the clip.  Any questions ask me as before I bought a new bit I was fixing mine every 3-4 days. :D

I got the locking rods and clips n stuff and just redid it all U can do it but it's feckin fiddly and you cant see jack unless you take the catch off. 2 big allen bolts and the handle again lol you can almost see and get ur fingers in :D

There is 1 thick rod from the switch (not in diagram) to a plastic clip on the latch arrowed 2 in this diagram
And 1 thinner rod from the locking pin/knob to the same plastic clip marked 1 in this diagram
BTW 3 is for your internal door handle for opening the door.
take your latch out and you'll see what I'm on about :D

Dead easy with new bits and doesn't take long to do just fiddly.

Had a really good look at this on the weekend, and as far as i acn see it's not the rods that are the problem, but the actual metal leaver on the door lock, i must have bent it :( I tried bending it but it is still intermitant, it gets stuck sometimes!

Anyone got a spare drivers lock/catch? (i am not sure what this is called)!

Also it has the plastic arm atached to it which is connected to the two rods, how can i remove this plastic bit, or is it part of the catch?

ok, got this sorted at last, new rod, clip and central locking solonoid ! :)

only one problem, the car locks when it's supposed to open and vise versa. It's the 5 wire one btw

is it just a simple matter of swapping the leads around? i mean is there a wire for locking and a wire for unlocking? and i have them the wrong way around?

Cheers

Note to self - this was suppoosed to be a 10 minute job - Arggghhhhhh

yes you should just be able to swap the wires over. One gives a signal on lock and the other on unlock. Get the multimeter on it if y not sure which is which.

i had a similar problem, mine wouldnt unlock or lock sometimes, had to play around for ages, in the end i had mine de-locked, and the door pins removed, works fine now using the alarm key fob!
