Hi everyone, I recently bought a golf gti 1.8T petrol 150bhp and was wondering what peoples experience with the wheel spin was. In my old ford focus TDI when I booted it in 2st and second gear the wheels would spin like mad when you put the foot down at 2500rpm . I have heard about people spinning the wheels in the golf but mine, even with the ASR button thing turned off when i floor it in first at 1500rpm the wheels dont spin at all the same goes for in second and third gear.
Whats everyones take on this? Am I low on power or something or is this just how the golf is?
-
did you buy the golf hoping it would wheelspin   grow up an except a standard 1.8t couldnt pull ma foreskin back
-
Haha no, Just used to my old car which spun like a  Heard about a couple of others who were getting some spin and was just wondering if I was lacking power or something
-
get a smoke test see if you have a boost leak

Diesels have much more torque than petrols. It would have been the torque low down that TDI's have spinning up your wheels...
-
What tyres did you have on the focus?
As said hp is a calculation made from torque at rpm so even though diesels rev low they can make similar go to petrola and that is because they have a lot of torque particularly low down.
-
Maybe he likes his beat fast and his torque down low
-
Get it remapped and it will spin spin up. I noticed a lot more wheel spin when I fitted 18s. What size alloys are you running?

What tyres were you running before and after.
Bigger wheels actually make wheel spin less likely as they are harder to spin.
The main contributing factor bar the power is tyres.

Mine spun a goodun!! & ate drive shafts for brekki

wheel spins are gay.

Cheap budget tyres are what you need for spinning and nackered engine mounts

Folks, I'm not a boy racer and I dont particularly want wheel spin, it wears out the tires. I have just seen a lot of posts about people spinning their wheels, particularly when going up hill and mine doesn't so was just wanting to know if I was down on power or something was wrong with the cars power/torque output.

Mine is putting out 220bhp and I rarely spin my tyres, a combination of half decent tyres and knowing how to driver properly prevents it. I wouldn't be too bothered about it not spinning up the wheels.
Scan it for fault codes, check for split boost pipes etc to check nothing is up.

you're not trying hard enough, dip the clutch and rev it the sidestep it
i thought my golf had traction control when i bought it for how it never spun. standard agu, and then with filter and tip it didnt spin then, unless you tried to make it happen.

just make sure u take a drum of chip fat wid u when u go out
