Title: Mechatronics
Post by: Jumbojim on 06 June 2013, 18:43
Gentlemen

Mechatronic is a sort of add on to the DSG gearbox. Has anyone tried to change one themselves?
Because the VW dealer wants £1500 to do it.

After changing it you need to carry out basic settings on it and the clutches with a diagnostic computer

Surely that's £1500 including the parts? if you have a mate with a ramp its not hard to do, there's a good video demonstration guide on youtube showing how to do it. the clutch adaptations are pretty self explanatory in vagcom. you need to make or buy a tool for refilling the gear oil

edit: here's the link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=trhfvm5aJAY i forgot it was in german  there might be an english version somewhere but the video is good enough to work from

Yes Topher, the £1500 included parts.  I think that the parts were about 50% of the price.

m8, i had mine changed last summer at the dealer's, they ordered a mechatronics unit from Germany and they said it needs to come with a matching chassis number to my car.  So i presumed you just can't fit any unit there.  I'd say check with someone first before buying a unit
