Been into dealer today to have a arch lining and wheel looked at on Bev's cab. Both items are being replaced under warranty due VW UK launching new warranty terms to their dealer network, according to them it empowers the dealer more where they can offer a 30% contribution and VW UK pay the rest.
Thought everyone would appreciate the news.
Fingers crossed they'll be no dramas this time, instructions were clear:- do not wash, do not complete safety check and I've removed the bolt caps myself!

Why what other items can be replaced under warranty? Which other items have you had done?
-
In their words "VW have relaxed on some items such as wheels provided the dealer will pay the 30%". I guess it basically gives the dealer a bit of authority? Bevs cab has had a wheel arch lining replaced which was sagging and a diamond cut wheel which was 'corroding' around the centre cap:-

Cheers for the new waranty info Ginge. Hope it goes ok.
Mine was in recently and thankfully they took notice of the strict instructions not to clean it (the big sign I stuck inside the windscreen may have helped!)
It's the first time I've ever been pleased to see it covered in a layer of dust .

whats with all the No Cleaning requests, do your guys do that much of a bad job...My VW did a great job with polishing and a quick coat of expensive wax
-
I don't know if they do a bad job, cos they've never done it. Prevention is better then cure.

Some of us are a bit OCD about car cleaning and prefer not to leave it to chance
If you're into detailing then you really don't want all your efforts in keeping the paint tiptop undermined by someone yielding a bit of sponge thats washed numerous other cars and been dropped on the floor a few times.
If you are happy that your dealer will do a good job then all well and good

Yeah im pretty OCD too, but they always promise a good was and a decent wax. Never seen anything untoward after they return it, plus it only once / twice a year - the other 30+ washes a year are done by me....
Talking of detailing, really temped to buy the meguiars g220 kit :

Anyone used one of these DA polishers?
-
I went for the dodo juice buff daddy, hex logic pads, Megs heavy cut and Megs final glaze for around £170 iirc. I'd never use the cut on mine but I bought it to do an audi project for my bro and I was really happy with all off them.
-
Don't know if I'm missing something here but why would a dealer pay 30% of something that should be covered under warranty?

VW UK stand staunch on some stuff saying its wear and tear when in some cases it isn't for example the wife's wheel. The car is less than a year old and has less than 9k miles on it. The dealer knows me and knows what I'm like with my cars so fought my corner and VW activated this clause. If there had been any damage on the wheel I perhaps wouldn't have been so lucky.
-
Looking at those wheel pictures we have replaced wheels with that sort of corrosion on cars between 2 & 3 years old under full vw warranty with no issues without using the clause you mentioned. That is normally used for cars outside warranty limits (over three years old or more than 60K miles if in third year)

sponge
Remember charlie, you're banned from using that word
