I've just bought an 09 GTI mk 6 and want to fit an RNS510. I see there are a lot of B/C/H/P units on ebay around the £500/£600 mark so would these all be plug and play or would I need to do anything extra to get the unit fully working once it's plugged it in?

get the most up to date unit you can afford and make sure it comes with a GPS puck. it should fit straight in but you will need to code the car using vag.com (vcds). then you can update the units firmware and maps if needed.

thanks for the reply
-
no problem. Let me know if you need up to date firmware and maps.
-
Worth noting that you don't HAVE to code it. If you do it will give you nav info in the DIS, otherwise it's just plug and play.
-
Pretty pointless fitting the unit and not coding it. You should always code an rns if its replaced an rcd.
-
Why is it pointless? They may not e fussed if it doesn't show up in the DIS, or not want to spend £60 getting it added.
-
Plenty of people on the forum will code the RNS with vag.com for nothing. I'd do it but it's a bit far.

I managed to pickup an h version for £390 off ebay which should be with me next weekend. The guy isn't sure which updates its had applied so hopefully there won't be too much to do with it
-
an update or two will take it to a p version and then version 9 maps to finish off

Well after a lot of emails and eBay issues looks like my unit is finally on its way. The pics I've been sent show no dmg/scratches so I think I've got a good deal
