Title: Very slight knocking
Post by: Rod1-gti on 03 June 2013, 22:30
Hi guys. i bought my golf on Saturday and have noticed that after driving for a bit, and then left to idle there is a very slight knocking sound (so slight, i think Im being paranoid)

My question is; should the 20vt be run on super unleaded with a higher ron? as i know this can resist pinking.

I would give it a service as crappy old oil or low oil can make them a bit noisey... and as for fuel 95 ron is fine unles its mapped then use super unleaded

Thanks guys.

It just sounds like someone is lightly knocking on the plastic engine cover. Its been well serviced, it has fvwsh.

I have been told there is some sort of solonoid on them that can rattle?

Drop the sump and check or replace the oil pump pick up pipe could be blocked.

Filled her up with a higher octane fuel and it seems to have done the trick :)
