Title: Where can I get the sill trim cover strips cheap?
Post by: Khare on 03 June 2013, 20:33
Need to replace driver's side sill cover strip (the one that rusts overtime), although both could be done to save hassle in years to come. Dealers want £40 per side + the end cap. Does anyone know where I can get one either new or in extremely good condition cheaper?

Tps?

trade part specialists. They do parts for all the vag group cars. Dealer parts, but your not paying dealer prices. I know they do the VR6 splitter genuine, which vw don't even sell no more. Try your pot luck, most likely tps will do them

Good call, i signed up with them months ago and had a call from them about setting up an account but nothing ever came of it and was expecting a rep to come round to see me...
Getting someone else to deal with sounds like a much better idea.

I will pop round my TPS at lunch and see how much they are charging. I could do with one of each side too along with the end caps.

So either £38 inclusive of VAT from TPS or £40 from dealers, inclusive of VAT...Rather use dealers, less hassle. Cheers guys!

I found them extremely hard to source last year, the problem is not the plastic it's the fact it has a metal strip in so it's a pain in the ass to copy as its expensive, therefore not many people do. Ended up going to the dealer, luckily had two strips in stock and wanted to get rid so got them £40 all in, was quoted over £45 each side though!

Otherwise if the rust isn't too bad, just get rid of it by soaking in it baking soda mixed with water (use only a little water). Brush rust off with a metal brush. Afterwards lubricate it with some light lubricating oil with anti-rust preferably. It won't rust again then.
