Was just reading brettuk's post on replacing the gearlever housing and it reminded me of a few bits i bought for my last golf but never got round to fitting. I have a neuspeed short shift kit and a weighted shift rod, and was just wondering how easy these are to fit? I also have the gearlever housing kit but rubjohnny's guide here (http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=25421.0) seems pretty easy to follow.
So any advice on fitting these 2 parts would be greatly appreciated, I havent got much money to spend on new parts so I might as well fit any old bits I have lying around!!!

Easy peasy lemon squeeezy mate
Weighted shift rod is most easy, remove 2 split pins, take off old unweighted rod and fit weighted rod & split pins. (You could have got one much cheaper from a rod change MK3 Golf but you probably don't want to hear that )
The short shift is a little more tricky but still easy, look in the engine bay for the relay shaft, its the bit with the big rubber ball on it :) Bolted to that is the bit you need to look at, the next step depends on the design of the short shift.
If it replaces the whole arm undo the top nut and it will pop off. Then fit the replacement and do the bolt back up again.
If its the bolt on type, just bolt it to the original arm.

Cheers mate, might give that a go this afternoon if I can summon up any energy at all in this heat!!! Its a bit of a catch 22 position, when its cold I dont want to work on the car and when its hot I havent got the energy to!! No wonder I never get anything done!!
Also I dont feel too bad about the shift rod, the guy I bought the short shift kit off gave it to me for free
Cheers,
Tim
