Title: Coilover help!!!
Post by: local.litw on 01 June 2013, 17:19
Just went to replace the coils in my car and when it came to removing the top mount the Allen key started to round the hole out!! Tried to use some grips but it just f**ked the threads. Any other way to hold it while I remove the bolt?

An impact wrench will do the trick.

if it comes to it fella you can drill it off, start with a 8mm bit then 10mm bit and just hammer and chisel the nut off..

This^ and when you get the new shocks on give the top mount bolts a few squirts of wd40 every time you open the bonnet to avoid this common problem again.

I spray them with plus gas for couole of days before I remove them and they come off easy with a allen key and a swan neck spanner

i did the exact same thing, sheered 4 allen keys in the process!
found out one of my pals got an impact gun in the back of his 4x4, torqued it up and spun em off, instantly.
copper grease all new threads and everything you put back together
