Random question guys but is the accelerator pedal on the GTI floor mounted?
-
Yes NO
But you also have a nice foot plate to rest your foot on a long journey
-
Great i had a horrible feeling id seen a picture of one that wasn't. I like a floor mounted accelerator pedal
-
No, they've abandoned the floor mounted design in the mk7. It's gone back to the more traditional style now that you see in most other cars.
-
I don't believe it is floor mounted
-
I am pretty sure it's not floor mounted, I thought I saw a picture that showed the pedals, but I can't find it. Not too sure why they would change it as a lot of cars now have the floor mounted accelerator pedal.
Cheers,
Phil

The GTI I test drove last week it defo wasn't floor mounted, cos like you I love the floor mounted one in my mkv at the min
-
oh b*ll*cks sorry for wrong info.
just seen a pick its not floor mounted
why do they keep changing things.
much prefer to floor mounted setup in the mk6
-
Balls that's a bit annoying.
-
I'm kinda pleased to be honest, I've never really got on with the floor mounted pedal on my MK6.

Not on the photos of UK models I've seen - foot rest has been plain black. Might be different on DSG models though.
-
Personally I died a little bit inside when I found out it wasn't a floor pedal. Really like it in the Mini.
-
It probably makes it easier for heel and toe, not that I can do it anyway
-
I have been out for two test drives in MK7s including the GTI and never even noticed, so didn't feel any different to me.

Have to admit, I didn't notice much, if any, difference in feel between piano-style and traditional accelerator pedals either. With both it is only my toes touching the pedal while pivoting on the heel.
-
UK models won't have the aluminium foot rest plate.
-
According to a tech friend of mine at VW, the redesigned pedal was introduced so that the entire pedal box could collapse in the event of a major head on shunt, severely reducing foot and ankle injuries.

Sorry for misunderstanding, When I say nice foot plate I mean you actual get some where to put your right foot. I know we don't get the ali cover that is only available on left had drive for some reason. so many cars on the market these days don't have a space to rest your right foot when you are on cruise.
