Title: HELP! All brakes locked on!
Post by: billabong on 28 May 2013, 10:13
Yesterday I upgraded the brakes on my 1.9D Mk3 golf to GTI brakes.
I used the GTI wishbones, hubs, driveshafts, carriers, calipers, discs and pads. I also put the GTI master cylinder on.
I did a full bleed and tested, all seemed OK but the pedal was a bit hard.
This morning driving to work, after about 10 miles, all the brakes seized on and now the car is at a standstill and will not move at all!
This doesnt make any sense? :/ Any ideas please??

Master cylinder damaged in some way or incorrectly fitted if it's definitely all brakes.

Thanks.
What MC should I be using? The GTI one was a car with ABS, will that make a difference?
The original MC was a 20 and the GTI was a 23 I think...
Thanks

I don't think it would tbh but you can use your old MC no problems, I used my old one which I think was 20 or 19 IIRC when I upgraded and brakes were good and sharp and never had any issues.

Ah ok, Maybe I will put the old one back on and do a full bleed and see how that goes...
I had to bend the pipes to get it to fit the 23 so hopefully they will bend back ok!

Ah.

How badly bent are they? Not kinked in any way?

Leave the car a while, I wonder if the brakes will release?

Could well be the pipes kinked and you've forced fluid through with help of a servo and it doesn't quite have the pressure to release the other way.

Check the pipes.

Pretty sure none kinked but can check. Going to try again soon to see if it has unstuck. If not I'll get the AA to run me home :/
