Title: 1997 8v anni front brakes
Post by: gaza2001 on 27 May 2013, 18:05
hi, just bought new discs and pads for the front, everything went fine until i went to put the original bbs alloys back on and the the wheels fouled the calipers? so wont turn? the discs are 288mm x 25mm and pads being 20mm thick, i did think about putting a 5mm spacer on, but wanted to know first if i have done anything wrong?

Surely they're the wrong pads then If the calipers have been pushed out too far for the wheel to clear?

You possibly don't have genuine anni wheels but the mk4 version that look the same but is 1/2 " narrower and will foul the caliper without spacers and fresh pads, ive been there!

screech that does make sense, the calipers went on fine over new discs and pads. what thickness spacers would you recommend?

hi bud you will get away with a 5mm spacer, but I personally don't like spacers that arnt hubcentric as I tryed this and couldn't get my wheels to centre properly which made the car feel like it was surging at low speeds I wacked a set of 20mm hubcentrics on in the end but I do have rolled arches ,so in your case  I would go for the smallest hubcentric you can get which is around 10mm I think

In reference to the wheels,  mk3 Anniversary BBS RX2 alloys should be 7jx16 and the mk4 equivalent are 6.5jx16.

So only 2.5mm on each pad. That could well just be the difference in a genuine pad and a after market pad.
I know greenstuff pads are thick. So you might have mk3 wheels, just thicker pads than genuine pads.
