Title: Retro car audio
Post by: eddypeck on 24 May 2013, 13:53
I fancy the idea of a head unit that's in keeping with the age of the car. And although 20 years ago I favored Kenwood to Alpine, looking at them now I think Alpine are more distinct and have aged better.

So I quite like the idea of an 90's Alpine head unit. So apart from trawling ebay and finding loads of "non-working", "un-tested" etc. Anyone know of a good place to get, refurbished old stuff!

Other than that, anyone come across any new kit (any brand) that has that retro feel to it. So much of the new stuff is all blue lights and led displays and shiny surfaces.

Been thinking the same thing myself - wish I kept some of the car audio I had years ago!

Pioneer 77mp is a more recent one that has a good retro vibe going on.

Alpine CDE-130R has that basic classic green button look.

Perhaps there's a gap in the market here for refurbished period car audio, with handy upgrades like iPod, Bluetooth and dab thrown in For good measure. lol!

I've got an Alpine TDM-7526F radio cassette that you can have for the cost of postage if it's any good to you. It works perfectly and has ISO plugs, so will plug straight in.

I had it in my previous Mk2, but changed it to a Kenwood radio cassette as the lack of RDS was a pain out here in the sticks. I have also got the cd changer to go with it, but don't have the changer lead and one of the cd trays is missing. That's not an issue though, it just means you can only load 5 instead of 6.

Alternatively, this might be worth putting on your watch list at putting in a last second bid. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Kenwood-compact-disc-6cd-auto-changer-and-radio-/151060377407?pt=UK_In_Car_Technology&hash=item232be66f3f
