Title: Cruise control
Post by: Mk6woody on 24 May 2013, 12:00
Hello!

New to this forum guys so go easy ;)

I'm interested in retrofitting cruise control to my mk6 2012 golf
Can any one shed some light on what's involved?

I've had a search about and found lots of info on the earlier mk6 where it's a case of replacing the stalk and coding via vagcom is it something similar for the later mk6?

Thanks in advance

James

Awesome GTI in Manchester will do it. It's £299 on there web site. I'm not sure why it is so expensive as they only charge £120 for older cars like Mk4 Golfs.

I had seen that from awesome GTi I don't understand the price diferance,
I was hoping to do it myself if it was similar method to the mk4/5

Cheers

I fitted to my 59 plate gtd.
Replaced the stalk and coded by vagcom and it works perfect.
I did read that its more involved on 2010 on cars but not sure why.

It's more expensive on later mk6's as they replace both stalks, i assume it's all one unit but when i had mine retrofitted at the stealers it was only £170, mines a march 2010.

The steering wheels has to come off as does the couling, the stalks are replced and then coded.

My dealer quoted me £85 for the replacement stalk (singular, at least there was no mention of a plural, unless both stalks are part of a single unit), and £180 for labour.

I queried them on whether there were any additional modules required as someone had mentioned that here, they said they spoke to their chief mechanic and it would just be the stalk. I assume theres also some coding needed as well.

was yours the older single stalk version then? Always ment to do mine.

Iirc later cars the stalks are all one and something like the slip ring also gets replaced.
I know I have asked this question before and the differences and what was needed were pointed out.

Been on to my dealer they can't quote me for this work :/

Don't really fancy paying out £300 for somthing that might be fairly straight forward.

Anyone know exactly what's needed

Ps thanks for the replys

Yeah mine only needed the indicator stalk changing, i was one of the lucky ones as it was cheaper than factory fit!
I think yours may have came over on the same boat so should be the same?

It's gonna cost you a few £££ unfortunately mate but you should be able to find a dealer to do it, i'm pretty sure it's still listed in the dealer fit accessories.

You need both stalks and possibly the steering slip ring. kits are available for 2010 cars onward and if your dealer won't quote for it take your hard earned cash elsewhere as they are being lazy. don't be fobbed off by them.

I am stunned that to gain cruise control, only a stalk is required.  I thought a module of some kind would be required at least

Yup! And if you had an earlier car like myself it was £250 from the factory or £185 dealer fit! I got a little discount on it as well!

On older versions yes.
At the end of the day its canbus as long as the program is there and the option enabled it would work.
A lot of things work like that nowadays. Why have loads of versions of a program or electronic circuits.
Make them all the same (bulk is cheaper) plug in the acc and enable that part of the program. Thats the joy of a digital age and communication system busses. Its how alot of electronic devices now are designed.

Must admit, this will make me think about retro-fitting cruise.  I had it onmy last MK6 GT.
On a recent visit to Germany, I really missed not having it.

Must admit, I would only let the stealers fit it though.
