Title: APR Carbonio intake and Carbonio Stage 2 pipe (MAF to Turbo inlet)
Post by: jhunter_83 on 24 May 2013, 08:55
Hello,

Just looking for a bit of advice, i currently have a standard GTI mk6. I am looking to buy the above, originally looking to buy just the intake but then thought should i buy the stage 2 pipe.

The question i have, with it being named stage 2, do i have to be running stage 2 software for the car to run properly or is it just something you need to go stage 2?

I am looking to go stage 2+ eventually but wanting to buy the parts first.

I was looking to buy the above kit, then go stage 1 REVO then eventually exhaust and so on.....

Any help would be appreciated before i order today :)

you dont need a stage 2 map to run it. its just a different inlet pipe

as far as i can find its more for show than go. the main benefits are from the intake itself

though pipercross do a stage 2 pipe and claim benefits. the APR or carbonio ones on the US site dont seem to do much other than look nice.

if i were buying an intake i would get the pipercross intake. the power increase seems impressive and it looks a good design. some of the shrouded ones look bloody stupid i think

I have both of the above fitted to mine for about 2 years now, The filter is great but i wouldn't bother with the carbon intake pipe (what they call stage 2) it is as said above just for show and no real gains, also were the oil breather fastens to it there is a crap seal, i often get a bit of oil seapage onto the heat shield on the manifold when giving it some beans, so unless this has been updated i would stay clear

Revo ones are made by pipercross but not sure if on the tai whether the Revo one has a ceramic coated pipework, the K04 one does

I was a big fan of the closed ITG on the tsi but know some had whistles which i never got, ironic as the preproduction ones did about 20k of testing miles

i had the whistle noise on mine which was horrendous

made the car quicker but it sounded comical so sold it after a few days

Thanks for the help everyone, think I'm going to order the piper cross from gnj. Graeme is great for what he does.

Does the piper cross come with the maf back pipe too? The same pipe as apr call stage 2?

Cheers

there are 2 different ones - the full intake or just the part up to the MAF sensor you would have to confirm which your getting

i ordered some whiteline stuff and my bilstein suspension from GNJ and he was good

Reviving a dead topic but I have the pipercross intake and the oil breather doesnt correct properly due to the angle of the stage 2 inlet hole and leaks bit of oil.. Did you manage to get it to connect properly?

I've had no trouble with my pipercross intake definite improvement and no issues. It was awkward to fit the the clamp on the hose silicone from the intake pipe to the turbo but does what it says on the tin. I'm happy with mine.
Mine did a good job yesterday getting remapped too, 269bhp on an otherwise standard car. Not bad, it's rapid now.

Nice, i've had a dyno run over the weekend  and got 252bhp, APR Stage 1 and pipercross intake, i fit the intake after the remap..do i need to get a reflash to factor in the better flow?
