Title: Honda lawnmower
Post by: Sam on 22 May 2013, 20:36
Not starting, got spark (not sure how good however but does start with carb cleaner), got fuel, took carb of and stripped and cleaned along with air filter. If i take the plug out and then put it back in it will start for 1min on choke but then cuts out and wont start again, it will barely work off choke. Fuel is flowing straight through to the carb as I unplugged it and checked at that end and like I said, carb stripped and cleaned (didnt work at all before).

So, any ideas?

if it has been left more than a year the fuel is probably stale. drain all fuel and re-prime with fresh and see if that works

I thought fuel lasted for more than a year? Anyhow, as stated it will start and run fine but cuts out as soon as it gets a little warm. Could this be down to a f**ked plug?

Had this exact symptoms on one of these. Try easy start once it's cut out and see if it will run on that or brake cleaner.

Mine had the tinyest bit of dirt somewhere in the carb can't remember where. Took hours of stripping again and again everytime seemngly nothing wrong. Runs a dream now.

I have nuked it with brake cleaner and it obviously runs like its on nitro for 10 seconds, then 20 seconds of calm running then just cuts out.

Are you using fresh fuel, does it improve on warming up?

No it gets worse and wont start once its run. Will stick in fresh fuel and a new plug.

What carb is it? Does it need re kitting? Have you set the low and high jet correctly? Have you tried new plug and fresh fuel?

Fuel should be fine but the two stroke oil might not be.

Fuel should be fine but the two stroke oil might not be.
most lawnmower engines are four stroke. and i`m putting my bet on it being stale fuel..
could be a carb related problem as if the mower has been tipped to the side (should always tip them back to clean the deck) oil can work its way into the carb..

Drain all the fuel,   (sniff the engine oil for fuel if it smells over petroly replace it )

includeing undoing the drain screw on the float bowl.  then refill with fresh and try again.

if still a twerp remove the float bowl the unscrew the main jet itself from inside it's houseing (  right in center of carb)  blow it out, refit and try again.

condensation sort of plays havoc with water gettign in fuel over winter and general crud can block the main jet )
