Title: One problem? Also selling the car.
Post by: bailey281992 on 22 May 2013, 15:22
Car starts fine, then you'll drive it for about 15-20mins and it just dies on you
It's not the battery, I've had a distrbeour fitted and hasn't solved the problem I've just brought a ESU rely to see if this will work.
Any ideas?
Also thinking for selling the car as well if anyone is interested

Golf gti colour concpet, blue. Petrol
Stero and sub included.
Electric windows, moblisrer alarm.
Anymore information wanted to know then do ask.
Needs a good home.
Pictures will be up later.

does it die while driving or does it die when you come to a stop..can you rev the car fine after it starts (redline it?) You will have to give more details....mine died on the motorway and did not start after that...it was the coil...

You may only need to change the relay....number 30 i think...:)

It's dies it when your driving just dies, I have to wait half hour for it to start again and then after that it wants to die and cut out again. The revs go really high even when your bit changing gear then they drop. Also I've noticed once that the speedo will still be at 30mph even when it had died?

crank impulse sensor could cause this,

looked fine on car, but once removed this is what i saw when touched to cable..

although not sure if it would cause the rest of your problems, lol but well worth a try!

look at all the electrics, as they are prone to deteriorate over time. Buy yourself a code reader for £10 off of ebay and it will come in handy, or borrow from someone. It may point you in the right direction.

My friend who is a mechanic is looking for a cheap car, so if you decide to part with yours then name your price.

I think everyone who owns a mk3 gets frustrated at times. This forum is great for sharing your concerns and getting help for them.

The cars are fun to drive, but require a lot of love for them to function.

good luck and I hope you find the problem!

Crankshaft sensor sounds like the most likely culprit. My Anni has this when I first got her as the wires were all loose from the plastic casing cracking.
