Since I like to watch my pennies I have been monitoring my MPG in my 20vt BVR engine. So over 8 weeks I am getting this, an overall of 31mpg. I do around 40-45 miles a day, mostly B roads and Town driving and I do like to press the loud pedal a fair bit! I am shocked at how good these engines are on fuel. I only run mine on Shell V-Power and change the oil, oil filter and plugs every 3k as I am a bit anal like that! But still, 31mpg, that is the same as my old MK2 GTI 8v and better than my MK2 GTI 16v and heaps better than my MK3 VR6, yet performance puts all of these cars mentioned to shame! She will pull with ease to 135mph and the speedo will go off the clock (160mph on speedo) when flat out, so in real terms most probably 145mph (Runway attempts at this speed)
So the negative.....Well she is a MK3 Golf and even with a 20mm drop on Koni's, Koni shocks, front and rear strut braces the handling is not up to the performance. This maybe due to running 195/50/15's, maybe I should be looking at 215/45/16's or another option is to drop her 60mm and see how that feels.
Overall......Very happy and I would suggest a 20vt engine highly......Just need to figure out how to get her to handle well.

What are you getting mate as in MPG? I wonder if my MPG is good as it was one of the last to be built as the engine came out of an Audi TT Roadster 2006 so maybe updated software or maybe a good re-map? I find she is like driving a Renault 5 GT Turbo as in she will drive like a 1.8 20v then once at 2,800rpm she really pulls. If I floor her in 1st, 2nd and 3rd the wheels will jusy light up, so have learnt to bring in the boost with ease or I just get wheelspin and serious torque steer. She is loads of fun to drive but with the boost being so on and off I have learnt to take the twisties with care, unlike my 205 GTI's I have had, all 18 of them since 1992! Showing my tender age here!

Yup, my mpg is stupidly low!!
-
well at 31 mpg you must be getting close to 300 miles to a tank?? driving like an absolute granny everywhere i get around about 240-250 miles to a tank, start putting the foot down and it drops previous owner once got 96 miles to a full tank  just out of interest what sort of rpm are you doing at 60mph in fifth?? mine is doing about 2900 rpm
-
60mph in 5th my rpm is 2,700.
The previous owner had 96 miles to a full tank once, that is shocking!

Did he ever change gear?

Ive done £20 of fuel in 20 minutes in my old vr

Best I've got out of my 8v was last weekend, 380 miles to a near full tank and that was sitting at 70 odd most of the way, with the casual increase to overtake on dual carriageways. Granted a lot of the driving was motorway or dual carriageways but I was quite impressed, trip computer said 43mpg.

My Octavia 1.8t used to be around 260 to 280miles to a tank
-
Mine is thristy with the current set up
used to be pretty good when it just had the K04 on it and custom map.. but that was driving it like a granny
I tend not to do that...
