Title: Decisions decisons
Post by: Bellend on 20 May 2013, 14:15
Back from Crete to sunny England.

Thought I should probably take a look at the car I just bought.

Shell has a ding in drivers door and a scrape on the rear bumoer but other than that it's sound. Oh and the bonnet lacquer is knackered but shell is rust free! Sills are straight and not a spec of rust anywhere! I need to take the arches off really and the sill covers but I don't wanna disturb them really. I'll have to tho but I bet they are 100%  it's solid!

Car would need a bit of work to be on the road and properly sorted. Insurance is ridiculous to change over. 700 til November even tho it's 700 to insure for the year at policy start.

I'm thinking of swapping it into my 3 door shell. But the shell isn't quite as mint. Barely any rust whatsoever just the drivers sill needs a tad of work.

The wipers dont work but that's no issue on the VR6. Aircon is cold. Mint splitter. Mint working fogs. ABS works.

No idea what to do. Keep it as is, manual box it, chuck engine in my 3 door MK3, sell everything other than engine brakes ans suspension and get a MK2 which I do really want.

Gonna hit it with a jetwash and have a think. I'd sell the shell tbh rather than scrap providing nothing is lurking under the arches!

Pics later!

If the shell is good as you say, i'd keep it. not many mk3's you will find rot free these days and at that price. Don't break it for the sake of it.

Manual box it and sell.

Well they say dirt hides a multitude of sins.... if they don't then I've just said it.

Threw a bucket at it and a jetwash. Lacquer peel on the roof bonnet and the wing mirrors.

Ding in the wing, bumpers both scraped probably polish better.

Shells solid but all the paint is worn. I reckon a machine polish would get it respectable but it would need a respray to do it properly really it's just worn.

I'm gonna strip it and maybe sell the shell or perhaps keep for a project.

Not worth sorting to me really. Shame. I can't see it selling very well either for a project as is. 5 door auto needing a respray, door window motor at right driver rear, wiper linkage alloy spray.

I couldn't see me getting 300 for it so will do what I intended and let the killing of the 6th MK3 I've killed begin.

It will save mine and hopefully someone moght want a straight shell for 100 quid or something.  Sell it for scrap value as it's straight :)

Excuse the background, a lot of building work going on around me!

Working non cracked fogs and genuine splitter!

Back to reality and work tomorrow so no idea when I'll get a chance next. Probably in about 2 months.

If anyone wants anything off the VR let me know!

Also go many other spare bits so just give us a shout!

Not as keen myself!

Will either get them dipped and powder coated or spray my MK4 alloys and swap tyres.

80k and no. Was advertised as chain rattle but it's actually a dodgy PAS pump!

This ones gonna get broken now I've seen it all. Too much work to make it mint. Cheers tho!

if it is mechanically sound i wouldn't mind having an auto vr6. i'm not too fussy on looks as long as it will serve me well. my current golf auto has 130000 miles on it. what do you want for it?

Shell itself is straight. Other than the paint. The doors wings etc aren't.  Could be used as a very long term project. Dunno I'll see when it's stripped down.

But a respray is a grand so is that so worth keeping?

Wouldn't cost me a grand though. :)

Nah I've always wanted to do a PD130 MK3. Could be a solid shell to stick in the garage and do it.

Probably do the full spray myself or atleast prep it. They say no painter likes to work off someone elses prep but since I used to prep cars for paintwork at the garage for him, he will. :)

Dunno I'm spitballing. All I know is I have an afternoon to get cracking on getting this VR6 in!

It's between PD MK3 or MK2 and VR6 MK3 and MK2.

Unfortunately I just don't need two cars. I don't even need one car only a van. I think I need to diesel this shell and let the GF drive it.
