Title: Tune-able ECU
Post by: swanson07 on 17 May 2013, 12:01
Turns out i need a tune-able ecu for my 1.8T AGU.

Looking at a G4 but would prefer a cheaper option as theyre fairly pricey to buy and get put in.

I Need it as my car is running lean and deting, Atm its parked up untill i can afford the new link and get the boost leak and exhaust leaks repaired. also replacing coil pack.

Cheers guys

David

And why cant you just get another agu ecu and code it in??

What power you pushing etc?

take it this is the link g4 ecu you are talking about here?

sorry cant be of help in naming any "cheeper" versions. can I ask why you want one? cause imo if you were going through all the trouble and cost of getting an after market ecu for all the better processors and electronics in them and also the ability to tune it your self ide be wanting to get the best I could.

the standard mk4 ecu can be remaped and reprogrammed so unless you really need the link g4 ecu a standard map should suffice.

only know one person who has one of these ecu's and that's on a 600+bhp Toyota MR2 and he does all of his own tuning and tweaking to put it into different modes (reserved 300bhp for winter, moderate 400bhp for summer fun but a bit of economy for driving to work, full wack 600bhp for when he wants fun and extra economical mot test time :D )

Werent all AGU ECUs tunable?

Ive had ones done on a T reg though OBD2 port....

Mine too

Thanks for your feedback guys.

They seem to think my AGU ecu isn't tunable (I live in New Zealand, dont think they have the gear for a VW). My only issue is its running lean. Therefore my engine is Detting at all rev's. I was looking the the MAPECU3 instead of the G4, theres $800 difference.

What do I need to tune my Factory AGU ecu? its mainly just a fueling problem.

Cheers
David

Check hardware over first.

What is your setup?  You running a 35 turbo on a stock ecu??

Yep holset hx35. Stock ecu with a superchip installed which ive been advised to remove and install an aftermarket ecu thats tunable. But apparently my stock one is tunable? Could someone please re-assure me that a stock AGU ecu 1999 is tunable. That way I might save se serious $$$ like 4.5k

Stock ECU is perfectly tunable.
We have AGU ecu's here in UK running 500bhp and even more with NOS.

Only issue with ME3.8 is you cant READ the file off the ECU, but you can write no problem.  Most flashing tools write to them no issues.

go to a different tuner mate.

all mk4 golf ecu's are remapable. so for him saying that I wouldn't trust him to map anything.

Are you also running all the suitable hardware
Bigger injectors fuel pump etc Etc
The me3.8 is fine so no need for a aftermarket Ecu

Also without a proper map the car will run crap especially when on boost
I would recommend unplugging the n75 until its sorted

Car is parked up, unsafe to drive due to it running so lean and few mechanical issues i havent fixed yet.

I think im running standard injectors and fuel pump. What flow rating and injectors are recommended for a 400BHP set up?

Thanks for all the help so far, you guys have saved me so much $$

Well standard injectors are only good for about 230bhp someone will advice on which ones are best for the Gi but I woul also recommend upgrading your fuel pump
Is everything else upgraded to suit?
Exhaust, turbo intake, intercooler etc etc?

Yeah massive intercooler - had to get a custom built front skirt to fit it on :D

exhaust is 2.5'' im pretty sure, Had a T3/T4 turbo on before so using same turbo intake.

What sort of injectors are needed can some one send me an example of the ones im looking for through a link or photo (im a noob :L)

Also changing to a K&N Cone filter as my one is a cheap crappy one.

With an AGU and your setup I reckon you'll be looking at Saab reds or even greens. I'll find you some links

Talked to lots lots of tuners in NZ today.

Lots wont touch it cause its a VW but theyre happy to flash a map onto my ECU.

The only issue is id need a Map that is able to be edited - different octane ratings around the world

As for injectors ive found some RC 550cc injectors does anyone know if theyre decent?

Still looking for a Fuel pump

Dont get the RC 550cc I have those on my AGU when I went to RTech and they told me they couldnt map it with them.

Get bosch 440cc (green giants) or Siemens deka 630cc they are compatible for a AGU.

When they say they are happy to flash, what do they mean? Just an off the shelf map such as APR, Revo designed in stages? Or will it be a custom map?

Reason I ask, before you jump ship is, if they are offering you an off the shelf product like APR or Revo etc... chances are the whole injector quest will be short lived, due to the scaling of maf to injectors etc... If its something they know what they are doing and are able to read various points of the maps, adjust the various maps etc... then I would say the injector etc modding you can do.

If its an off the shelf product you will be very limited on your tuning route. The ME3.8.x is a beautiful ECU and very capable, look at its older predecessor, such as the 3.1 found on BMW's, very tunable as well.
