hi all,
got a mk3 gti 2L
GOT A BAD GEARBOX, WILL A MK2 BOX OR EVEN MK1 BOX FIT?
FITTED A MK2 TO A MK1 SO IM HOPING IT WILL!

I think a mk2 16v gearbox might fit, but cant see a mk1 fitting s

Yes a MK2 020 box will fit, the MK2 16v box is exactly the same as the ones fitted to the early MK3 GTIs :)

If you fit an 8v box you have to fit the right flywheel (& the right pressure plate too I think?) for the engine and the right clutch for the gearbox.

Apparently 8v GTI boxes are a good mod as they allow more relaxed cruising in 5th gear too, with the rest of the gears beimg the same or very similar :)

hi, cheers for that!

done my home work today!
mk2 16v will fit 210mm clutch (28 splines on the input shaft)
mk2   8v          200mm clutch (24 splines on input shaft)

SO MK2 16V BOX ON WAY!

my gearbox started wining and finaly i changed it not befor trying a 16v box first should have known it wasnt gonna fit!io know now!lol
