Hi All;
on the verge of ordering a GTI, but wondering when the dealers will start having them to look at.
Missus is going to kill me, as getting married this year etc etc. But after buying a A4 Avant Sline i just finding it boring and want to go back to a Golf GTI. I had a 56plate GTI a few years ago and regretted selling it ever since!
The quick quote I got from a dealer the 3 year GFV was approc 13k what do you think it will be worth? As i have never bought a car on PCP and thinking if i put 5k in to start after the 3 years am i ever going to get much equity back for deposit on another car... Only thing that has ever bother me about buying a new car. As i have also ended up settling for a 2-3 year old one instead.

Depends on your mileage but say 10k a year over 3 years will leave residual value of est. £13.5k.
Dealers are hoping they'll have demos by mid June!

Putting £5k in won't affect the GFV, it will just reduce your monthly payments (including interest) during the 3 years you own it (if you don't shell out the GFV at the end to keep it). If putting £5k down reduces your payments down to below what you're used to paying per month then it might be worth putting the "difference" aside every month to save up a new deposit on the next one, or towards the GFV payment if you pay it off.
According to VW's own website, for a basic 3dr GTI with 5k down, you'll pay £311 a month and have a GFV of £13084, or for 5 doors you'll pay £321 but it'll have a GFV of £13487. So for an extra £360 paid over 36 months, your GFV is enhanced by £403. In effect it costs you less to own a 5 door GTI than a 3 door GTI if you chop it in every 3 years.
GFD is generally about 10% lower than you'd receive in p/x, it's VW's "worst case scenario" value of the car.
Above assumes 10k miles per year.

There is an area of the configurator with a calendar icon that talks about booking a GTI/GTD test drive, but it is greyed out right now and cannot be selected. I doubt it will be selectable before sometime in June.

Thanks for the information all. Question with the GFV was what we think they might be worth in three years, as effectively will not have the 5k equity with the car as deposit was paid. So if in three years wanted to trade for another similar deal I would have to find x amount to supplement back up to 5k deposit on new car.
Can't wait to actually see one in the metal!

RhysH: You don't HAVE to find the £5k on your next one, you'll end up paying about £150 per month more (not taking into account any retail price rises that happen in the meantime) than this time if you don't though. You can take out solutions with no deposit, but it suggests about 10% deposit down. Worst case with GFV is that if the dealer was to offer you less than GFV on your next car in part-ex, you'd walk away from the one you have and start from scratch (assuming you have no excess mileage charges to pay).
It's swings and roundabouts with the monthly payment if you change every 3 years - put down significant deposit for a low monthly payment, or don't and pay much more per month. Alternatively you could put down a big deposit and pay more per month than solutions suggests to have a lower GFV to find if you were to keep it beyond 3 years (which will be saving you interest).
I reckon you'll start to see demo cars in aboout a month's time. If you want to order before then i'd suggest
taking out a MK6 GTI to get a feel for the performance and then a well equipped MK7 Golf GT to get a feel for the MK7 and the standard equipment.
There's not much in it between financing the depreciation on 2 concurrent GTD/GTI "ownerships" via solutions of 3 years each vs keeping one for 6 years (and paying up the GFV). 2 x £10k depreciations vs 1 x £17k depreciation (assuming a generous 6 year p/x value of £9k) + the cost of a 5 year extended warranty (for comparable coverage of 2 "new" cars)+ the cost of 4 new tyres extra wear (could be 6 = 2 sets of fronts and a set of backs)+ one more tax disc (1 each with the 2 new cars vs 1 with the 1 new car). At £150 per tyre, the cost between 2 x 3 yr solutions or 1 x 6 year ownership = £20,000 vs £18200, £1800 over the space of 6 years, or £300 per year extra. Don't forget that year 6 of option 2 has no warranty coverage.
Those are the kind of figures that VW engineer to make you want to change every 3 years, along with more generous standard equipment likely available in 3 years time.
I should be a VW salesman!

Good post Monkeyhanger!
Sometimes think I should just jump and make the plung, however always got the cold shivers of committing to the monthly payments. May wait until I see one in the metal and go from there. However I will probably know I will end up signing up then lol.

Did they tell you what spec? Manual/ DSG? Performance Pack?.... Things appear to be moving on quickly now.

I think it's just a vanilla GTI but the salesman was really surprised at how early it was coming in. He said it would be about a month before we could test drive it.

Make sure you get pics!

What's the point in a demo if it's not for test drives?
-
Yeah pics is a must! A month? That's b0llocks, my dealer told me as soon as they get it it's going on test drives - you've ordered one, they've got a demo therefore you have the right to drive it. They're just saying that as they want to keep it for themselves; exert your right as a paying customer!
-
Don't worry I'll take loads of pics when I get to see it. Will push for a test drive as well

VW will insist that the cars cannot be used for customer test drives till the official launch day.......however that doesn't stop us "running them in"

When is the official launch date Lee? And would that exclude a customer sitting on the passenger seat while you are running them in?

18th of June

Do you know if dealers will be putting anything on with regards to official launch? Will for example existing owners or potential buyers be invited a long for a special preview?
I suppose it depends on individual dealerships. Not heard anything from mine yet with regards to an official launch...
