Quick question guys as I can't seem to find a definitive answer, the old girls about to tick over 100k so I'm planning on treating her to a service but should I continue with 5/40 oil or change to 5/30? I'm sure that I've read somewhere that you need to change to 5/30 when the engine hits 100k because of wear etc.
Final question a lot of you seem to use quantum platinum, however whenever I search on line it seems to be listed as PD oil. Do VW use the same oil for both or is there some petrol specific variant I need to find? I have previously been using castrol but have seen Quantum at good prices.

My car is on 121k i change my oil every 6 months and use 5w/40 quantium i ha ent heared about changing the oul type over a certain milage before

As far as I'm aware it's because as the engine wears the more viscous oil can seep through gaps easier. I don't know if there's any merit in it though that's why I thought I'd check. How much do you pay for 5 litres of Quantum?

I pay about £26 from tps they always sell it cheaper if you buy your oil on the last wed of each month

My vRS was on 120k and I used 5/40 Quantum all ok.

Thanks boys ill get some ordered.

there is no benefit, 5w40 is thicker than 5w30 so you would be moving down to a thinner oil.
