im after some advice. i REALLY want to learn the basics of mixng music etc not for pro use but for pleasure. i think i have a ''feel'' for music it just i have no idea what id need to start learning how to loop/mix etc. ive got virtual DJ. but i cant get my head round how for example this is done (yes i know these mega pros)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3CN6qSsUZwE
are they recording certain parts from the original editing them and then using them over a base backing?
how are they able to turn the whole backing and tone etc instantly
alot seem to have a longish build up of quite a fast bassy lead up to the main hit are these pre mixed samples then put together on the live mix? can thsi stuff be done with home laptop software etc
i wont ask much more unless some here knows how to do Doing
any tips and advice on this stuff be great remb i just want to learn and have fun etc

Brad (Kells / F17 BAD) is a DJ I think.
-
He is using the Effects on the mixer, which looks like a Pioneer DJM 800 (one of the industry standards)
My advice is get rid of Virtual DJ its sh!te
Get your self a pair of Techncs 1210s and a mixer and learn the art of real mixing first.. Walk before u can run and all that malarky
If you are scared of real vinyl then go for a pair of CD decks, Pionners, CDJ 1000mk3s or newer
any more help just ask, coz yes i am a DJ and a promotor and have had many of the worlds biggest DJs play at my nights

A cheap and effective setup would be using a DJ controller running either Traktor or Serato software both have very good effects, looping, easy to use and feels close to a hardware CD deck & mixer.
Avoid using the sync features to learn beat matching tho
-
I've never progressed to CDJs from my 1210s, IMO there's not so much skill involved

I use Serato, to use serato u must have Decks or CDjs and a mixer, Serato does not aid the DJ at all like Tracktor etc
Going down the trackto route can be done without the need for standalone mixers or decks
TBH its a great bit of kit but not for me at all.. its all to easy to make it the DJing for you. i just dont see the point
Serato is basically just your record box so u don't have to take your vinyl out with you..
If you live in york you could maybe come down to one of out radio shows thats broadcast from a studio, near leeds... could see how a few things are done
i will have Technics 1210s on with Serato also. everything is live

Plenty of skill involved in CDJs if you want to treat em like turntables still. SERATO can also be used in internal mode ala Virtual DJ but as Kells said not much point. Cheap decks secondhand of eBay but get direct drive and not belt driven. Cheap mixer to begin with and SERATO and you will be good to go. Depends what music you are into.

I dj'd for about 15 years played lot of places but I was Technics only back then. CDJ's are probably your best bet as most if not all clubs have them now & vinyl is a dying mode of music plus expensive & lot of labels are digital only now.
Once you get a set up all I can say is practise, practice, practise :)

You're probably right, I think I was shown the "easy" way to use them which has put me off

And wazzer. Nowt wrong with vinyl and digital solutions which is where SERATO comes in. It controls and bridges the mp3 onto controller vinyl so best of both worlds.
