Apologies for starting a new thread, but the only other one I could find suggested that as it was over 120 days since the last post I should start a new one. As a newbie I don't want to upset the hard working mods....
I have the itch for new wheels for the wife's GTi. It sits currently on 18" Monza's.
I am tempted with either the Glendale's or going for some BBS CH's in 19" in Anthracite.
I keep seeing sets on ebay.de for a price cheaper than my dealer can do, and can get some BBS's for a similar sort of price.
Has anybody purchased from Germany ? Will I get stung with any taxes on delivery ?
What do you informed folk reckon I should do ?
I will accompany with some VWR springs so as to avoid the off-road look, again, any thoughts welcome
Do you reckon the wife would even notice these mods ?
-
Glendales are growing on me but I'd take the 19" anthracite CHa everyday as just look stunning with a tap of the lowering stick
-
When the exchange rates were much better I used to bring in a fair bit of stuff from Germany via ebay or other online specialists. You don't pay any extra tax as it's all EU but the carriage charges can be quite high.
If you buy wheels from Germany or elsewhere in the EU and get the tyres in the UK it will probably be a lot cheaper to courier them.

19" BBS CK's

19" BBS CK's
Does it for me!!!

I bought some BBS CKs brand new from German Ebay a few years ago and they were considerably cheaper than the UK and the shipping was pretty cheap. There were no taxes to pay (EU country) and they arrived in 4 days.

What about these?

You are a star, I will mail the chap now

So, I'm guessing you bought them then?

Nope, missed out
Back to the drawing board. I have asked my friendly refurber to keep an eye out for me.
I am thinking of lowering first and seeing how the Monza's fill the arches. All this attention on wifeys whilst my car is feeling unloved.
Thanks again for the link.

What car you driving Mark?

I have a 911.
(and a very understanding wife)

Very Nice.

Very Nice.
Thanks. It was a very adventurous company car opt-out, didn't go down too well with my employer at that time....
-
Going back and forth on the wheel front.
Spoke to my dealers today, they were looking at nearly £2k without tyres for a set of Glendales, so ebay.de looks increasingly tempting.
I then got to look at some VMR710's. I had these on an E93 BMW and they looked great, so it's all up in the air.
How long did it take all you guys to actually choose your wheels ?
Also, has anybody gone with an 8.5J on a Mk6, if so what offsets and any rubbing ? I am looking at an ET45 and was wondering if I actually have 19mm to play with against the arches ?

I assume that's the new 911 [991] then Mark, or did you get a used 997 or 996? [Apologies to all for asking an off-topic question]

You're looking at another £800 or so for decent tyres too.
8x18 is the perfect offset and width for the mk6. No rubbing.
You can go wider on the back but there's the risk that will interfere in extreme situations with the anti-going backwards into a tree electronics.
I went through loads of sets of wheels on my last mk6. Always wanted a set of BBS CKs but there was no way I was going to pay retail for them so I waited and waited.
Then a second hand set came up and I plunged, kept them on the last mk6 for its final 9 months with me and have had them on this one for over a year and a half.

I have had it a couple of years, a 997 Gen 2 C2S PDK. It was 'previously enjoyed' but fully OPC warranted. I will have to wait for the 991 to come down in price before I can afford the plunge on that one....

Thanks for the info, I thought 8.5J might give trouble, and I prefer subtlety rather than the Carlos Fandango look or 'stance', a word I hate with a passion, . I have kept an eye open on fleabay for what seems like ages, I am fed up with putting in BBS 19 Used and seeing that set of wheels for a Jap import at £2500 that must have been on there a year
At least with BBS you get a good price back should you choose to sell, it has to be the sensible option, I just need to make a decision for once, or do I, oh I don't know .....

I just love cars
I remapped her Mk5 and put an exhaust on it for valentine's one year, didn't go down too well, accused me of spoiling it.
She has final say, then I ignore it. I can't help it, they are so damn good you can't help but want to play

You're a lucky man. Keep the mods tasteful and I'm sure she'll be happy and leave you to play

My wife loves the mods I have made to her car.......well she likes the led rears
-
I have just sat here, showed her the VMR's, she turned her nose up, showed her the BBS and she didn't like them, and then the Glendales and she said 'them'. Sort of decides it me thinks......
Raffe, what springs have you got on yours to sit like that ?

She must have good taste. I like Glendales but am biased

Wonder how many of the gti/gtd's on here actually belong to member's wives

Probably more than many admit to, that said I love that I only drive it at weekends as it feels like a proper hot hatch compared to the Bimmer
Mark - Eibach Sportlines, it sits perfectly with about a finger width above the top of the tyre.

Looks just right, I like Eibach stuff, got them on my Fiat 500. Reckon I will go with some.
I was looking at some VWR springs and those guys say that Eibach make them.
