Title: This is how online forums should be
Post by: Andy B on 06 May 2013, 18:50
Can I just say how friendly people are on here, even if they disagree with something?

I participate in a few other forums (not cars), and on a couple of these, the place is filled with *wats who aren't happy in their daily lives unless they've humiliated another person at least once that day. On one forum, any poor soul who staggers into the 'wrong' view on something is treated as though they've caught a communicable disease.

So, in short, just a quick thank you to all of you who show that you don't have to be a **** on the internet. I love you all (in a manly sort of a way).

Yeah I echo the same sentiments.  I certainly have a mutual respect for people on here and their choice of car, whatever the reason or level of specification, and I get the same in return.  Makes for a pleasant place to banter, and as said, people are also genuinely helpful.

I used to be a member of a couple of games console-related forums around when the Xbox 360 and PS3 were released...absolute nightmare, full of childish fanboys!

Agreed, I'm a member of another forum as well and the bickering and arguing is ridiculous. So much so that a number of members have been been either temporarily suspended or suspended indefinitely. Most of the arguments come from those who have the top of the range motors and are trying to push out huge bhp - lots of my dads bigger than your dad nonsense.

This forum seems very friendly

Aye, most places have very heated arguments. I have a small penchant for Lego Star Wars UCS kits and within the forums I frequent for it there are 2 main factions - those who snaffle up great offers to resell at a profit on ebay etc (to varying volumes - some just to do enogh to fund their personal purchases, others on an industrial scale), and the self righteous ones who believe that if anyone sees an offer they should buy them up and offer them to other members at cost (and if they don't then they are the spawn of the devil). There's usually a lot of name calling between the 2 factions, and so I mainly use it just to get wind of the offers that would interest me.

Here, here! This is why I spent a bit of time on this forum before joining and posting. I can't stand childish flaming and numbskull banter. Life is too short for that nonsense.

I've been a member of Scirocco Central for years and that is very well run forum full or courteous, helpful folk who just want to help each other.

This forum is the same, and long may it continue.

Couldn't agree more. This is the only place online where I have not been insulted or patronised within 5 mins of arriving.  Thanks guys!

Hear hear... You fellas are some of the friendliest I've come across on a car forum... Maybe its a reflection on the type of person that typically drives a Golf?

However, I'm worried that if it gets any cosier than this we're gonna be discussing "World Peace!" next.. Not Golfs. Hahaha

That's because most of us on here ARE from the Scirocco forums

Do agree though Five-O, this and the Rocco forums are nice places to visit.

Oh that's so funny. So, we're all hanging out on here now under different pseudonyms! Can you guess who's who? I haven't the foggiest

You have to thank the mods for their unseen work I would imagine in promoting a friendly vibe.

I am new on here, but have been welcomed, and spend a few minutes on here every day, reading through past posts, etc to learn something new.

I moderate on a couple of BMW forums and it is a constant battle to keep the fools at bay, much will go unseen by members.

Thanks folks, I enjoy it on here and will stay around. Hope I can add some value one day because it's all one way at the moment and I thank you all for that

It is good here. I used to use a certain 'Cupra' named forum when i had my Leon. Run by various ladies undercarages. Got a lifetime ban for merely disagreeing with a mod

It's always been good around here.

Reinforced by the number of ex mk5/6 owners that stay around.

Good job by the mods as well.
