Hi folks can someone please tell me are the rear discs on a 1998 gti 8 valve 226mm/10mm? Cheers Steve W..
-
they all are i believe
-
Yes they are.
8v gti, 16v gti, and vr6 are all the same.

If replacing the rear discs I would recommend new wheel bearings as well.

Any reason why wayne?

Because you would have to remove the old bearings from the discs to re-fit to the new discs and would probably damage them in the process, new bearings are fairly cheap and mk3's can be quite hard on rear bearings if the pre-load isn't set correctly so all in all its better to change the disc/pads/bearings in one hit for peace of mind.

Spot on :afro: sound advice

Its also worth mentioning for this job that you will need the caliper rewind tool to compress the pistons back in to the caliper..this is a MUST as you will damage the caliper without it, its also highly likely that the two caliper carrier bracket allen bolts will be a pain to remove so its worth having a good 8mm allen socket that fits in to the bolt properly and even some irwin extractors in case you round the allen bolt out.
