Can anyone help me with this my my 1.8t has developed a nasty sounding tapping noise on tick over once it gets to full running temp.
Its fine from a cold start just starts tapping once warmed up and if i lift the rev's to 1000 it stops.
its only started doing it over the last two weeks, The engine has also covered 177000 if thats of any relevance
Any help would be great.

Could be ur carbon can mate :)
-
Sorry that went right over my head whats that?
-
There's a black box at the left front of the bay there is a pipe leading to the throttle and one down to a pipe on your tip mate makes a tappy noise
-
Ow right. iv noticed that it is tapping but that is not the culprit its deffo coming from the engine!
Iv noticed some people take the carbon can off is this a job worth doing?
And as for the engine could it be oil pick up problems?
-
cam chain tensioner :undecided:
-
Blocked oil pump pick up pipe would be my guess, get it sorted asap before it kills your engine.
-
my passat used to tick like f**k when it decided it wanted an oil change.
change the oil and it'd shut up

Got a lightened G60/ABF flywheel on there?
-
It had a oil change about 4 weeks ago. And i dont think its got a lightened G60/ABF flywheel how would i tell?
