I've got an intermitant electrical prob on a '90 8v.
I figured maybe the coil could be at fault, so i'm looking for a replacement..
I've seen a couple of decent looking ones in a demon tweeks catalogue for 30 odd quid or so..
Anyone recomend this for an 8v , or an alternative????
Also they mention a balast resistor to go with the coil if your car doesn't already have one.. Is a golf already fitted with one? anybody know?
cheers J.

i've never tried anything like this, but i'm pretty sure most vw mechanics reccomend only using bosch ignition components. might be worth a shot as £30 isn't alot of money, why do you think it might be the coil?

the problem, a complete loss of power, was happening quite often in the winter when it was cold. it has only happened once since, on a hotish morning with the engine running hot.
the reason i think it is an electrical fault is that, once the loss of power occurs i just pull over turn the ignition off, start her up again, and all is fine...?????
during the loss of power i'm sure the car is still firing on all cylinders as it doesn't feel lumpy.
but it's almost like the timing is well out..???
dist cap/ rotor arm/ ht leads/ plugs are all good, so i'm thinkin try the coil....???
or the ecu...????

JTM,
Could be the distributor at fault itself, if it is then try GSF as they have the cheapest price around for a distributor.
