Title: uncalibrated weigh bridge results on valver
Post by: blueandy on 04 May 2013, 16:25
I was at the scrappy this morning, weighing in some spidge.

I have removed the rear seats, changed to front buckets, lighter wheels, no spare, nothing internal really.

It came out at 1080Kgs with a quarter tank and no me.

Need to be another 80kgs lighter.

Removing the aircon will get me 15kgs, sunroof 12kgs, lighter battery 5kgs, there's a bit more trim to come out with doorcards and boot lining say 5kgs, lexan windows to the sides and bootlid must get me down by 10Kgs
Out with the stereo, 4 speakers and wiring must be 7Kgs,

any more ideas?

The scrappy said I can go back each time to get weighed no bother so can track what makes a difference.

Stainless exhausts weigh a lot, mine is at least 10kgs more than a Mild steel system.

All plastics, arch liner, etc!

Smaller wash bottle, exhaust manifold. Cast manifolds weight a lot.

why not have less exhaust? Instead of a long one making its heavy way to the back

And look up supercapacitor car battery on youtube. weighs a lot less than a traditional car battery.

Once the interior is ccompletely gutted except for the essentials why not chop out all the extra brackets,  lugs and excess steel? Have you removed the rear bench support on the floor pan?

ABF, not notionally chasing a ton, but seems a good figure to aim for.

remove all roof and pillar lining etc.
I want to keep the front of the car reasonably comfy and not all rattly/tinny/rough, but this may have to go later down the line, I like some creature comforts

All plastics, arch liner, etc!

Smaller wash bottle, exhaust manifold. Cast manifolds weight a lot.

Without spending a ton of money then stainless manifold is out, Glen Ess says that they are mostly junk and I respect his opinion.

why not have less exhaust? Instead of a long one making its heavy way to the back
Noise regs sadly, presently I get through any rated test as I'm below 86dBs ;)
And look up supercapacitor car battery on youtube. weighs a lot less than a traditional car battery.

I've been meaning to watch the youtube link as this could be an easy 10Kgs!

Once the interior is ccompletely gutted except for the essentials why not chop out all the extra brackets,  lugs and excess steel? Have you removed the rear bench support on the floor pan?

Ongoing, it's not a great deal but it certainly all adds up!

Electric windows and central locking system?

Yup its going when the plexy goes in

why not pick a lighter base vehicle if your going to be competing?

I could have gone for a locost with a bussa engine and been done with it, but I had a valver, it and me have grown together and I like it, I know it

Fair enough, least its a decent engine then! Have you taken the innards of the dash out? like the heating matrix and vents? might get you a little bit more.

also headlining and interior plastics if you haven't taken them out already
