I'm going to be 20 in september with 3 years NCB (touching all the wood i can find)
What are the chances of being able to insure a G60 for under £2k? Which would be cheaper to insure, a LHD original import or a RHD conversion job?
TBH i think i'm going to struggle as the cheapest quote so far on a 16v has been £1380 TPF&T. That was with Elephant though, haven't tried Flux, HIC etc

The guy with the massive smile is the insurer, the guy looking puzzled is you.
This image will be burnt into your skull.

Elephant are usually cheapest when i've had quotes.
What you've been quoted sounds about right considering your age......mine costs 390 quid, but then im old
tho i actually still founs that a lot of insurers didnt want to touch me with a barge pole  :undecided:
Admiral were quite competitive too

lmfao @slick...gud job!!
and i agree with Dubby, for any car really for us youngsters! lol
Dinx

1.3k isnt bad for 20 yr old on a G60 imo
left hooker will be more expensive enit?
-
RAOTFPMWL @ Slick too true too feckin true ;)
You have no chance mate tried to insure a G60 corrado before I bought my valver no "normal" companies will insure you and Adrian Flux and most specialists if your under 25 (24 gutted!) require you to have driven a turbo'd or supercharged car before how I haven't got a feckin clue!!!!
I'm paying £750 3pft on my 16v with 2yr ncb and :ahem: 6 points :D
Good luck!

I am a old man. 30 years old, declared pulley and chip. Stage 4 charger. 10 years no claims protected. I am paying £720 fullt comp. Some indication maybe.

faf slick... that pic sums up most insurers and customers to a t!!!!
ive done quotes on alsorts this weeks through boredom and admiral and elephant are still throwing up the cheapest quotes, im with admiral already
oh for the joys of beind old, i remember the days when i used to pay a fair whack, but id always pay a fair wack for the real mc'oy than spend money on an underpowered looky likey.....

Lol, i think the first reply just about sums it up then!
Never mind, i'll be more than happy with a valver for now.
How are elephant when it comes to mods? I'd probably be doing a bit of light engine work (good recon like gambit did, exhaust, filter, rolling road tune etc) to get it to about 160bhp work and adding coilovers.
-
admiral/elephant are actually the same company, admiral have been ok over the years when ive done various bits to me cars, suspension exhausts, induction kits... the only thing is i think when you say the car is modified on your online quote alot of the time the quote will be rejected, if this happens its worth givin em a call as they do the same quotes over the phone but have the options to include/add any modifications.....

Im with elephant your quote seems quite high compared to mine i paid £1000 when i was 20 with zero no claims on a valver with no points etc.
HAve you tried putting your parents/ girlfriend etc on the policy it bought my premium down by £400 just having them as named drivers. Strange but suspose it gives the impression you are more responsible and my be driving the car less so a lower risk??
Wort a try

i added my mum and dad to that quote, brought it down quite a bit.
Were you insured third party for that price?
All i need to do now is find me a good J-plate, 3 door valver
-
I'm insured with Adrian Flux and not had any worries, they are really good with mods as well.
-
i was 17 turning 18 on my gti and paid 2k with elephant.co.uk. other companies wanted 8k
2k is alot. i now pay half that full comp. some indication
-
Im 20 and paying £930 tpft on 16v 1yr ncb clean licence, with Brentacre insurance, they're pretty sound guys too.
-
After seeing a fellow member get shafted by a certain superstore, I don't mind payinf a little more. Mine has been very good to me and always look at there quotes when I shop around. A extra £50 means nothing to me but should the worse happen I know I will be dealt with in a fair manner. Thats worth taking on board.
-
Brentacre also said I could modify the car without the premium increasing, only the excess goes up. Pretty cool I reckon, when some companies were still quoting me about £600-700 for something like a 1 litre fiesta, only a couple of hundred squid more for the car I really wanted
-
That was third party but fully comp was only about £150 more. the reason i didn't insure it fully comp was that the excess came to around £900 for an under 21 driver. I thought i would have to go a reasonable way to do £900 of damage and thought the saving out weighed the risk as i could probable get it fixed cheaper than claim.
I now pay £930 fully comp as im over 21 with £250 excess

Don't forget that the area you live in affects the insurance too.
My old Mk2 16v was costing me about £750 fully comp with elephant in a decent area of Nottingham, then moving to London and changing jobs put it up by £100.
One trick a friend did with his Elephant policy was to insure his car at his parents address, but to tell Elephant that he keeps it overnight at his address in London.
You can't do much about your postcode, but that little trick can work, especially for students.

If I was you I would go for a G60 Golf and put it on classic insurence!
