Title: Engine swap help

Hello poeple. I have a 1997 mk3 1.4 I am going to be doing a 2l 8v engine swap i just got 2l mk3 golf cheap and going to swap everything in to my 1.4 What bits will I need to change engine gearbox driver shifts loom ecu ? Do I need to change the dashboard loom ?

U need the wiring loom ecu and a coded key to that ecu the drive shafts are probarly the same the wiring loom will plug into the fuse box so no major wiring mess

If you have got the complete car, I would swap everything over including the brakes and 5 stud wheels etc, very little on the 2.0 is shared with the 1.4.

Don't forget to tell the DVLA and your insurance company when you have finished

So it's not big job ? I have the key that go with the ecu. Will change everything I just want to get the engine side of things done 1st so I know that's done

Its not major as these engines were made for a mk3 golf but one thing if you got abs u can say goodbye to it change engine ecu the ecu will talk to the abs pump and it will be a different part no ecu if youve got a donar car no biggy and if the abs ecu number is the same as the 2.0l abs ecu thts oki

My 1.4 don't have abs ? If I was to have week off work could this be done in week ? Or am I living in dream world lol

You will need to get that rewired after the conversion.

Ok thanks. The engine I will be putting in is a AGG will I need to get key recode to ecu ?

You will need all the parts from the GTI including the key, ecu and transponder ring.
