I never go to tesco's, normally ASDA for 95ron or mostly optimax but i was running low and it was close :)
Ever since, i have had amazing mpg, i have no idea why? i know there have been loads of threads on this so i don't want to start another, but has anyone else noticed this?
-
I know they are meant to be releasing a 99RON petrol but i am pretty certain its not released yet. I know that their petrols are pretty good though.

Sainsbury 98 ron is always good locally to me.... could really feel the difference on my old Ibiza, not actually filled my golf up yet due it not having tax / mot as of yet .. mot should be sorted within 30 mins and tax in the morning ... then petrol tommorrow , ill let you know how the golf likes it..

My sainsburys don't do it :(
Ian Beales Fish and Chips - did you check you inbox? or see the thread on the chinesse door handles? i really need to know if i have got the wrong ones
Cheers

the tescos in camberly has got 99ron now, and a bonus its still the cheapest 'super' unleaded

Aviation fuel works for me. I used to put in Optimax and TBH I think its all in the mind. It may give you the tiniest difference. If Ferrari said TESCO fuel made your car go better, its good advertising. Its all a slight difference mes thinks.

i look at the prices at pumps. at the end of the day it all adds up
tesco has the cheapest fuel down my end. thats what i ment about more in the tank
-
who's ron  and what are you guys on about - can anyone explain in simpleton terms what the deal is? i just fill up??? obv missing some more information about the real world??!?!
-
dont know, but by the sounds of things he hangs around at tesco's alot....
is it not just a replacement for the old star rating system... back in the day... you used to get different fuel that was rated by stars.. 2 star was cheapest ..5 star was the most expensive... basically laymen wise its just a quality of fuel... a lawn mower dont need good fuel so you filled it with 2 star .. but a high performance motar liked a drink of 5 star...
oh those where the days....
sept they dropped the stars when they dropped the lead .. and now RON goes about telling people whats what...
-
ok guys - woke up this mornin - and is the ON in RON the octane number.... i studied A.S chemitry - an something is ringing a bell..... od knows what tho!?
-
High the RON the bigger the bang basically and it denonates at diff times. Say you buy a car thats ment to ron RON 99 and you put RON 90 in. You will get pinking which is the petrol detonating before it should. This can lead to engine damage.
My cap says RON 98. So i only put in Super Unleaded regardless ;)
-
you get what you pay for! shell is always good i find

i love a good bang

i love a good bang
And if "RON" was to receive one from you i guess it would be a "GANG BANG!"
oh and tesco is marginally cheaper down my way but i would have to drive an extra 20+ miles to get my fuel, sainsburys it is...
also on the point of RON i think its Research Octane Number - it relates to a the fuel being tested at a certain inlet air temp about 65 degrees and is different to a similar where as the inlet temp air is about 150 degrees and this is known as a Motor Octane (test) Number.
the diff btween the 2 numbers is know as the fuels sensitivity, its very important.cos todays engines differ so greatly its poss that a fuel manufacturer can come up with a fuel that has a high RON, but a lower than expected MON.
This mite explain why the numbers on the pump may b the same but cos different manufacturers hav diff blends one may perform worse than another. BUT the same company may make its fuel out of a different blend (different factory/different refinement end product/dilutants etc etc) to get the same RON but a different MON.
STILL WITH ME? im barely sticking with it...
but thats why in the US they have (wait for it) s third rating - the Pump Octane Number or PON rather than RON. which is something like the averag of RON n MON which givs a much better grade.
I think thats why its been reported that the Americans gas is sed to b not as good as ours - but its the same.
BUT even this system can n is abused with the addition of fuel octane boosters!
basically... sometimes the fuel from the same pump may be better than other times!
(a friend sent me an email a couple of years ago on this subject - exciting friend i kno... and this is just a summary...!)
also ive had a few beers and not re read what i typed so please feel free to correct me mistakes!
-
could this explain why my car don't run very wel...??
ah well... i fancy meetin this ron.... as or shell... i'll leave her to you mk2gtimatt

My m8 stuck Nav Star in his Zetec S. Said he was waiting for the head to come off :O

The RON rating is the ability of the fuel to withstand ignition due to compression. IT IS NOT a measure of fuel quality OR the amount of energy contained in the fuel.
Please read here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Octane_rating
