An 063 is probably the smallest you could get off a shelf. Or some kind of skinny japanese battery. Or you can get lightweight racing ones. But quite expensive

I got a 43Ah battery that I took of my 1.8 and fitted the 63Ah from my 2.0.....

Just an off the wall thought, but how about motorcycle batteries?

MC battery would work (as a 'buffer' for alternator certainly) but might require more power to start - i.e. use another battery for starting.

I was thinking of something off the bigger bikes like a 1200cc which would have no problem starting a car engine.

Halfords do an 063 but its 12Kgs, their 053 is 13Kgs

But I found this clicky (http://www.thebatteryguys.co.uk/products/everstart-53520) which claims 9KGs,
my car currently (no pun intended!) has an 075 which is 15KGs so thats a 6KG saving and my other battery will weigh in for a tenner at the scrappy.

I will look into a M/C battery as I'm happy to use a booster pack for startup cranking as its a track car.

Not being funny or nasty here but if you are looking at weight loss in this great detail have you looked at yourself?

I mean I'm the first to admit I could lose a few pounds (or stones)

Are you going to relocate it?

Sometimes moving the weight is just as effective as weight loss. May save you some pennies

I'm going to stick it in a plastic battery box over the rear axle, passenger side.

You make a good point though.
